Going to the SA area you get to see some good sports complexes such as the Northside ISD stadiums. However, I feel that the ones here in the RGV are some of the best. LJ to me has a beauty that rivals anything throughout the entire state. McAllen Memorial Stadium, Three Cats Stadium, Donna Benne La Prade, Weslaco Bobby Lackey, Tom Landry Stadium, and Bobby Morrow Greyhound Stadium are extremely nice as well. Heck, I was even really impressed with Valley View's Tiger Stadium as well for a brand new program. Many of our stadiums already have "upgraded" to field turf as well. Many in the Coastal Bend area feel that their facilities are not keeping up at all and are looking at what is being done here in the RGV and wonder why not in their domain. Which ones in your opinion are the better stadiums for football games to be witnessed? Texas Bob Stadium site ranked Mission's Tom Landry Stadium as one of the top 10 in the state to view a football game. Maybe it's cuz the field is in an east/west direction allowing nobody to face directly into the sunlight. Here's the TexasBob link. I know there is some misinformation regarding some RGV stadiums. www.texasbob.com/football/

So which team has the nicest unrenovated stadium? You know, one that was fancy 30 years ago...

So which team has the nicest unrenovated stadium? You know, one that was fancy 30 years ago... We do. All they've done to Tom Landry Stadium is add more bleachers to the center part of the home bleachers. And the massive Eagle to the southwest corner is just a classic you'll see nowhere else. Some of the seating capacities in the TexasBob are inaccuarate. To me PSJA Stadium has more seating capacity than Harlinge and then they put Harlingen at 15000 which I think should be more like 11000 and PSJA should be more like 12500. Weslaco does not have a bigger Stadium than Donna either. Rattler Stadium in Sharyland ISD has a picture of Mission's Tom Landry Stadium instead. But overrall, great Information on TexasBob. And to answer the LJ ISD stadium usage question, all three schools are gonna use that stadium the way they do in Mcallen, Edinburg, PSJA and Brownsville.

So which team has the nicest unrenovated stadium? You know, one that was fancy 30 years ago... Los Fresnos... everyone seems to complain about the 30yr old visitors side, but quickly add that its one of the best stadiums if you consider the atmosphere... instead of renovating the visitors side, LF has built new concession stands, new bathrooms, built a grand entrance, the lnscaping on the home sside, and the large noth side parking lot, not including upgrades to the feild house... oh and new lights... most of this was done 10yrs ago... but the stadium itself was left to future remodling which has not tken place... seems to be a debate on how it should happen,,, grass/turf, scoreboard or not, bigger visitor sides or not, bigger homeside- if so in which way... tear down the exisiting home side and move it to the v iitors, or just add on at the endzons like Har, or PSJA....

Harlingen's isn't the nicest one of all and I think eagle prophet is correct. I would think it would be more like 12,000 or so but it is still a great place to play. I mean, the parking still sucks big time but at least they rebuilt the bathrooms. Those bathrooms were nasty and small. The concession stands are of better quality now but it by no means one of the best in the valley compared to all the new ones going up. With that said, it is still home sweet home and it is still hard for opposing teams to win there.

I've never been to Los Fresnos' stadium, but I do hear the visitor's side is like a 3A type of bleachers. And Harlingen I hear has gotten some renovations done. Did they go with turf in Harlingen or did they keep the natural grass over there.
I know Mission is studying the possibility of a new scoreboard with Daktronics, but I think the natural grass in Mission will be around for a while. It is really a nice field we have in Mission and turf would be something some including I desire, but is really not a necessity.

Harlingen still has natural grass and the "facelift" it got looks awesome, from the home side only. I wish they would renovate the visitors side as well so it would have an appealing appearance from 77 SS. The lights are bright and the atmosphere is jumping when playing SB and Bird bowl.

Well that is very good for Harlingen. They should also help out with the visitor's side as well though. Not nice for them to treat their guests like peons.
And how about the Black Hole over in EE. Is that one gonna get a renovation here soon. You all need a way bigger home side. It should go endzone to endzone. Just like Sharyland. They need to go endzone to endzone as well.

i like our stadium....natural grass....good restrooms and enough concession stands on both sides.....also has plenty of paved parking for both the visitors and and home side....scoreboard could use some upgrading..and we defenitly need the fieldhouse for halftime and what not....the other thing would be a nice sidewalk from the visitors parking to there side of the entrance.....cause it gets ugly when it rains....

Well Benny La Prade looks to be a very big stadium to me. That one was recently expanded. I remember when Mission would play in Donna and the visitor's side was so small that it was always spilling over to the sides. Extremely nice upgrade. I've gotta make it out there for a game to check it out for myself one day.

They did alot to the visitors side. They redid all the bathrooms but the visitors side was just horrific before they put in the new ones. They also built new concession stands on both sides. He was talking about how old the stadium looks from 77 sunshine strip. The front of the stadium on the Cardinal side looks great. They just didn't do anything to make it look better from 77.

the seating capacity numbers for weslaco's are way off. i think it was a nicer place to play when the grass was there. one place that i'm glad i got to play at was roma. it's a small stadium, but you can't beat the view, and the grass is some of the softest i've ever played on. i like the atmosphere during a game in mission also.

Did you play in Roma recently. I think they have a nice stadium they built recently.
And Mission to me is one of the best places to play. It is so unique, and it looks really nice and clean from the stands, concessions, restrooms, and the field grass looks really good, too. I was out there last week jogging and was just amazed at how good the field is.
And Harlingen, he was simply talking about the facade from 77. Oh ok, then it's cool you redid the visitor's side as well.

i played at roma's stadium when i was a senior in high school. if they've built a new one in the last 5 years then no i haven't seen it, but the old one was nice.

I like what they've done in Harlingen, they need a new PA system though, the one they have has chingos of distortion when they play music and is piercing on the ears. The PA at EE sucks more though.
