Well Flour Bluff has a Senior top heavy team while Mission looks to its juniors to bring in their scoring punch this season. What should be expected besides the Eagles as a big underdog for this CC Bend powerhouse? I say Mission will make it interesting and in my eyes has a remote shot at pulling off the huge upset. Dave Campbell picks us to be 5th in district and a pigskin state ranking poll has MIssion at 198 while FB is at #44 Preseason. Their JV went unbeaten and tied Cal's JV for the district title.
Let's go Eagles. Make an early stand and open some eyes.

Hey prophet....does mission still throw the ball all day long? I haven't seen them play in forever so I really have no idea what kind of offense they have.

They've tried the pass, but the QB's have not been the most accurate. Last year, they wasted so much talent at WR and this year they have the fastest group of kids to fill that position in a long long time. I went to the 7 on 7 tourney and saw a few of their games. The QB can throw hard and seems more accurate than the previous one we had. He was more of an athlete. If the line can give some time and the kids find their targets, it could get fun again in Mission. I think we threw like 55-60% of the time last year.
There is a Sophomore QB with height and a smooth throwing motion who is supposedly very good, too. Don't know if he's in the plans for some good PT this season though.

wow. I have always thought of mission as a sling it kind of team. That is below what I thought the percentages would have been.

And not only that, their is no imagination in their passing attack. A lot of the passes they were throwing the past few years have been sideline passes where the WR has to make the DB miss in order for the play to go long. Seldom did they use the vertical passing game yet I saw too many times where the WR was way behind the DB only to throw the safe sideline pass for a 3-5 yd gain. Hopefully this new guy can go over the top or over the middle and let the athletes do their thing.

Eagle Prophet is so nice. You just want to shake the guys hand and say we hope it's a good hard fought game on boths sides and that no one gets hurt. It's a funny kind of gear shift from the usual banter with the Cal crowd on www.texaaaasports.comBut a pleasant change none the less going into a year that holds great possibilities for the FB Hornets if they get their heads screwed on straight and take it one week at a time. Me personally, I'm very happy to be making the trip down to Tom Landry stadium. I've been hearing about it for a couple of years now. I know the Eagles will be ready to defend their home field and to start their season on a positive note. I trust The Hornets will be ready as well.........just a short three weeks from Saturday.

So what truth is there that your DB may be going both ways this season? I like the imagination and creativity on you HC/OC's part trying to make the most use of all the athletes at their disposal.

At this point the coach keeps telling the media that no one has won a position yet and everything is up for grabs. That said, FB graduated the go-to WR Steven Shore. That spot may be picked up by one of the DBs. Oops, you just woke up my wife. it's okay

I feel the only way Mission can beat FB is through the air. From what I have seen in the past, FB is just too big for the Eagles to keep it on the ground.

I am gonna have to agree with you whole heartedly on that thought Profe. The only way we moved the ball on them in the playoffs was through the air or with the qb running up the middle. We won't run on them but maybe with misdirection runs we can do something. I don't know. It'll be tough.

This one will be tough for the eagles, but I do applaud them for taking the challenge...
The Hornets are a tough team, but I find it interesting how much success east had against them last year.
IMO 31-4a was not really that strong last year..East amost pulled it off so did Mercedes..
EE took care of their business so I give the Eagles a great shot..
In the end Hornets pull it off after a close first half
35-21

Currently, we just don't have the size to beat the better teams from up north via the "ground attack." Sure some of us are able to go 3 deep by focusing on the ground, but what then? We go up against teams like NBC and then we just get "raked over the coals."

The Coastal bend teams have got to start taking the RGV teams seriously or you guys will start winning more of these games. I don't think Cal or FB took Mercedes or East anywhere near as seriously as they should have.

So the play of these two teams had nothing to do with it, it was the fact that you guys took us lightly? ? I honestly did not think Cal was better than Mercedes last year after the game, I thought Cal new how to finish and thats why they won....

There is an attitude that they are not as good. Look at the way Cal is approaching EE. It should be playoff caliber competition in week 0 but it's a rare Cal fan who sees it as close. I expect FB to beat Mission but I also expect Mission to play a game they can walk away from with their heads held high. They are very young and inexperienced but I will be very surprised if they don't give FB a good game.

Speaking of us not having the size to match up with them is incorrect. OUR OL was way bigger than their front 4. Our front four, on the other hand, were a tad bit smallish, but what really killed us over there was their athlete QB who was allowed to freestyle his way as they went with 10 spread out on the LOS. QB Long then riddled and weaved his way through the defense in the second half. We had it at 10-7 at the half and that was supposedly and even better team than they had last season, which Weslaco East saw in the first round.
I understand they are stacked with seniors and do have incredible athlete so it is gonna be hard to put up some points on them. Our coaches better get that imagination vitamin going in order to make things interesting.

Imagination vitamins? lol RJ was freak man... We can't rely on that anymore. It think you could say they need some of these supplements. Vit E, Vit A, Vit G, Vit L, Vit E and Vitamin S. They also need these other supplements Vit O, Suppl F, Vitamin F, Suppl E, Vit N and S and Vit E.
