Controlled portion, PI took the offense first. Harlingen D came out fired up. they were fast and hitting hard. PI QB took some good shots early. PI had trouble moving the ball at first then got in some kind of rythm and were able to move but could not score.

Seems like Harlingen D showing what they will be all about. I'll wait for someone at the scrimmage total evaluation of the scrimmage.

Good effort on PI's side. RB looked pretty good, don't know his name, but looked afro american. also QB had some good plays as well. Passing game was non existent, although there were some dropped and over thrown balls to open receivers. Pi D started of good then Cards O started moving the ball Cards O went strictly shotgun. they have some small but shifty receivers with good hands and ran good routes. The RB #20 did a great job running the ball. Good vision and speed.

Heard Diego (PIs featured RB) will not be playing in the scrimmage due to a hand injury he sustained in practice in middle of the week. Well still excited to see what this group will look like with new ppl in the skill positions. Go Tarpons Go! Ya saw a guy on the sidelines with a cast on his hand. he looks like a pretty good athlete although he wasn't suited. Any one kow when he will be back in the lineup?

YellowJacketMania,
Thanks for the updates. Shotgun formation for Harlingen, so was it mostly passing on the Harlingen side? And did they score on passing or running or both? Reason is PI secondary is where work is needed so what do you think on your observation.

Cards ran shotgun but would hand off the ball sometimes and had some good runs from the RB. Also they play the short pass more and rely on the receivers to gain yac. They mixed up the run/pass bout half and half.
Pi O showed some good signs at times. Card D very aggressive.

Yeah read the paper where Harlingen coach said to his players that 3A or not PI will come to play so be ready. Aggressive defense is what they were saying of Harlingen for this year as well.

Cards O- HUGE improvement from last season running a 1 back shotgun spread formation....hgn got the passing game going, run short simple routes, even had a TD on a WR screen which was run a few times....this led to huge holes being open up for Pablo Garza...kid is smart waits for his block and has the ability to avoid tackles, gotta love that blocking downfield from the hgn receivers....Cardinal D-got to the QB before he could hand off the ball a few times, and even when he did cardinal D was there to stop/contain the RB........hgn D line was in the PI backfield for a good portion of the scrimmage....overalll good first scrimmage for the cardinals.

Just got outta the daggum sun!! Naw...I left close to everything ending.
PI- JOE VEGA is the real deal. DeMoss seemed intimidated at times. O-line needs work on pass protection. Defense needs to be more disciplined....had a guy getting frustrated and punched a Harlingen player on the ground.PI had some good plays....but nothing impressive. They ran the option alot to the weak side of Twins Rt. I saw four formations for PI...the I,Pro,Twins, and some spread. Kyle needs to work on his reads and accuracy, but his athletic ability is without a doubt impressive. Kid is an OPTION QB at best. The second QB showed better poise in the pocket, but the line wasn't helping both QBs. I see a PI team RUSTY, but they'll get better as the season progresses....
Harlingen- Well, The cards really didn't impress me too much. Offensively...GET THE BALL TO ANGEL AND LEO...OC! IMO, Leo Gonzalez has the best hands on the WR corps. #20 glides in and out of his OL. Mack Sanchez has promise, but needs to show better reads. Murphy,Murphy,Murphy....he's gotten better but still overthrows or underthrows his WRs. Still alot of room for improvement.
Defensively- As aggressive as this D is a team that runs the option and screens will kill them all day. D controlled the game without a doubt.

Defensively- As aggressive as this D is a team that runs the option and screens will kill them all day. D controlled the game without a doubt. The screen worked once and the option had some success, but adjustments were made and the screen was shut down altogther. The option did have a little more success, but was also non existent comapred to the first half. Overall Harlingen's D destroyed PI. Why werent you impressed? Do you follow Harlingen ball? The offense did have a couple of early problems, but they still took it to PI and moved the ball pretty easily. BTW: Get the ball to Angel? Maybe you missed his two TD's. I agree the ball needs to go to Leo more, but he still had his catches. Controlled: Harlingen 1st String 2 PI 1st String 0 Harlingen 2nd String 1 PI 2nd String 0 Live Game: Harlingen 4 (left early) PI 0 Note: Harlingen was playing its 2nd Team defense against PI's 1st when I left. Freshmen Red and the JV Red both won their scrimmages pretty easily.

When I left the PIs 2nd team was on the field and a couple of 1st stringers, but mostly it was still the 2nd string, (that's why I left, that and it was HOT!!) and at that point it was 2-0 in live action.
Live action PI got in the red-zone twice, but came up empty, one fumble and the 2nd ended with a no catch.
Overall, I say Tarpons did OK considering this is the first time they play as a team, as the weeks progress, they should improve once the chemistry gets better. Kyle did get hit a few times hard, but got right up. (No black shirt on him) But that's a good thing, he now knows what playing varsity is like, not to mention it coming from the Cardinals, it was like baptism by fire. lol Now that he got that out of the way, I think he will be alright. Like someone mentioned before the game, Tarpons are weak in the secondary and in receiving. I saw PI QBs being switch more than I expected. I guess no one has one the starting job yet. Kyle did play well on Defense, in live action even had a pick. Joe Vega showed signs of being a great back, I would have liked to have seen some balls thrown to him, maybe next week. Joe (who is not African American YJM, lol) will be a nice compliment to Diego Garcia and verse versa. I understand Diego Garcia will be ready to go for Week 0, against CC West Oso.
Harlingen D look pretty solid, their offense and QB also looked good and in good sync and played solid ball too. That lil #20 was pretty good back. Harlingen is Harlingen, what else can I say really. Good scrimmage, hope we can to play them again next year. It's great preparation for the Tarpons for season play.

i though the cardinals look very solid, i think if they concentrate and get better each week, they look to have a special season.QB j murphy looks comfortable in the offense. i was impressed with #20 and the entire O-line for the cardinals. the cardinal QBs had all day to throw. the cardinal defense look stout, every now and then PI would get a nice run, but the D stepped it up. As for PI, they looked to be rusty, good running back, nice size QB, very nice crowd for a scrimmage. i love me some FOOTBALL!!!!!!
