So Rollie got injured early, Diego is out with the hand injury, and just watching the video they say Joe Vega had a head injury. Looks like the depth chart is dwindling unless all the new injuries Rollie and Vega are minor ones. Anyone got the scoop on the injury chart for PI? On that video clip thanks to Guy Joe did look like his usual running skills as in the JV videos. And either he has gotten even bigger or the camera shot made him look bigger. Was Jude Green in action on the backfield or defense? And how about the rest of the players? And I know without the numbers on jerseys hard to know who played or did not. the injurys seemed minor for the most part they all got up andleft the field walking or jogging pretty easily

Jude played RB all of the 2nd series with the 2nd O but wasnt effective mostly b-cuz the line was blocking. Joe Vega did not suffer a head injury just felt a bit dizzy cuz of the heat, he will practice tomorrow. Julio Mendoza played FB most of the game.

Hope those personal fouls end here. When are these players gonna get it?- that they got to put the team first instead of causing these personal fouls (in retaliation or otherwise)! He got thrown out for a good portion of the game, taking into account PI being a small school that was basically two starters! Anyways, anyone having a problems with the links/clips? www.tarponfever.net/pics/Harl%20vs%20PI%20009.MOV

Cardinals looks strong in win against Port Isabel Comments 9 | Recommend 1 August 16, 2008 - 8:29PM By ELADIO JAIMEZ RGVSports.com HARLINGEN - All Manny Gomez wants is a little effort. Show him a little "want to" and the Harlingen Cardinals head coach is happy. And against Port Isabel in a scrimmage on Saturday at Boggus Stadium, that's exactly what he got. Harlingen scored three times against PI in the controlled scrimmage then beat PI again 13-0 in the game situation portion of the exhibition contest. "We got a lot reps to a lot of our kids and we got them exhausted," Gomez said. "And that's what we wanted to do. But I'm really proud of their effort today. They showed a lot of want to. We're going to need a lot of that effort against McHi in Week 0." Harlingen's offense was under the coaches' watchful eye on Saturday as the Cards have a new-look offense under first-year offensive coordinator Spencer Gantt. Senior quarterback John Murphy executed the offense as well as could be expected for the first scrimmage and led all scoring drives. Murphy threw a couple of TD passes to Angel Cantu and Luke Lucio. Running back Pablo Garza scored another couple of times as the Cardinals' O racked up 427 total yards. "We really wanted to see how aggressive the offensive line would be and we challenged them today," Gomez said. "There were a few times PI stacked seven men in the box and we still ran. Any other night we would have checked off on the runs, but we really wanted to see how aggressive those linemen would be." But the story of the game was the Harlingen defense. Port Isabel didn't score all scrimmage and the Tarpons' offense didn't look too effective. Harlingen's stop troops caused four turnovers. "We got what we needed," PI head coach Monty Stumbaugh said. "We got hit right in the mouth. We played hard but we still made a lot of mistakes. But those guys (Harlingen) are good." Lineman J.B. Gutierrez caused two turnovers and linebacker Matt Torres intercepted one pass. "As long as I'm in Harlingen, the Cardinals are always gonna be known for playing defense," Gomez said. "The kids swarmed the field today. Our (defensive) line was very aggressive today. We're gonna hang our hat on them this season and they know that. It was very exciting to see what they did out there today." PI's offense did show some promise. Junior signal caller Kyle DeMoss was efficient and junior running back Joe Vega filled in nicely for Diego Garcia, who's out with an injury for about two weeks. "There were some bright spots," Stumbaugh said. "We didn't practice well on offense this week and it showed. But the guys gave a good effort and we had some questions that were answered for us." What!? i cant believe this coach, his players were "EXHAUSTED" is the word he used! imagine how PIs boys were, harligen had 11 in and 11 out on D and on O,both first string and second string, so dont talk about being exhausted, even me in the stands, i was sweating like crazy and i was sitting down. Now Harligen is gonna be a GOOD team in 5A no doubt, but i definetly have to defend our line, now i saw that hyper DL man # 53 get pancaked by ryan like two plays after the fumble on the first play, their star linebacker got pancaked a couple of times also, on that 25 yrd run by Kyle on the option, that whole left side of the Harligen D was nonexistant, and yes their linebackers were filling the gaps that OUR line made , its just Vega wasnt hitting the holes fast enought, which might be expected from a back up that is starting in his 1st scrimmage on varsity,Then they said that we couldnt even get the snap off, Yeah!on the 2nd string line, that line is literally the JV line from last yr and then against HARLIGEN. IMO, I dont see us even coming close to playing another FAST D like harlingens, not even Cueros all around D was that fast last yr.The Cards had more DEEP,SIZE,SPEED, and thanks for brining the wood! its only gonna get us better, as far as PI football if we can stay healthy well be just fine..... 32 3A better watch out, three deep for sure

Good positve points royalbluesince02. Plus Tarps did get in the redzone twice w/1st in the live action. One we fumbled it away and the second we didn't make a catch. Tarpons WILL improve week per week and be ready for a tough district race.

Whats wrong with Gomez saying that HIS players were exhausted? He wasn't even comparing the two teams, he was just making a point about HIS players after the game. (Cry Baby) Regardless of how many pancake blocks PI got or whatever else you said they did, PI still got destroyed and if it was a real game the score would of been even worse.

hey "royalblue" harlingen only played it's 1st team and it's 2nd team all scrimmage long, so i dont agree with your assessment, the best O-line on the field last saturday was harl. highs, i dont remember the QBs for harl. being sacked.

I think he is just trying to bring out the positive things that PI did do, despite all of the things that they didn't do. His a big Tarp fan, I am sure he didn't meant no disrespect for the Cards, matter fact he did compliment them plenty. Scrimmages are just that, to evaulate your players and look at different personnel in different scenarios. Especially for the Tarps, having so many new faces, despite the outcome, both teams should be proud of the work they put in, (it was HOT and they were on the field for close to 3 hours) then build on it for the next scrimmage and then into the beginning of the season.

There is nothing wrong with the postitives that PI did. They did a good job. The same goes for harlingen. It was the way he started his post that made it sound like he was angry gal. Even if he is a big tarp fan...there are some big cards fans that will respond with the same intensity.

Congrats PI, hey your QB looks to have potential to be a great QB. Your safety on "D" (maybe a sophmore) seems to close the gaps quickly and has good speed. Both teams will benifit out of this scrimmage. Good Luck...
