i don't think there will be. too many parents forget that they're not getting themselves a dog, they're getting one for their kids to play with and have around. that's where all these accidents come from. not taking into account how old your child is and neglecting the education you should give to your children about taking care of their dog. you always need to have respect for them, no matter how long you've had them.

You did defend them and you and I and several disagreements over this breed. I have and you have larger breed dogs. Pits simply have something in them, probably through inter-breeding that makes some, not all, just trip off line every now and then. They can't be banned because they aren't a true and regulated breed. They do seem to show up too often in the news for these types of tragedies.

I had a lovely red nose pit that would not harm a fly.. very obedient and [playful... one thing was for sure though ... she new i was in charge.... the moment she got up to see out the window she would look back to see if it was ok with me... and a lot of times i would send her to lay back down... not because i did not want her to look out... but b/c i wanted her to know that i was able to take that away from her.... same with food... toys..
you need the right attitude to raise a good one... you have to have a strong character to over piwer thier strong personalities....
First mistake.... and most often than thier last mistake....
KEEP the Dog Tied up..... never tie up a dog.... never.... unless for 30min to an hour... a tied up dog that geets released tend to not listen to thier owners,,,, they relish the freedom... and you dont get to bond daily or hourly and give them attention that they need... compared to if they live in your house... What i dont understand is when ppl on the news say that the dog was good and friendly and then it ends up attacking... how can anyone know how a dgs personality is if all they see them is through the window or as they get in thier car or go feed them... The dog may be good but the owner is not... I actually think that that is more inhuman than anything ... Im no Pita person but am a dog aficionado and would hate to limit a dog by tieing him up...

You are right. The first/best way to teach a dog to be aggressive is to put it on a rope in the yard.

IT's weird how dogs just change all of a sudden. That is why when a child is in the house you can't own a dangerous dog like a pitbull wether it's trained or not because you never know....

How many cases such as this one will it take for people to understand that little kids and pitbulls are NOT a good combo.

Dude... I've defended this breed till I'm blue in the face. I love Pits. Beautiful powerful animals. I personaly own a Rot and just lost another recently to cancer. I know what you mean by being the master of your charge. I can make my male Rotty crawl under the carpet with just my voice (without screaming) and I've never layed a hand on him. But there is just something about Pits. Someone else made the point that it's the wrong breed for the wrong owner and I couldn't agree with this more. I feel the same way about Rotties. Not everyone needs or should own one. They are strong willed powerful animals and it takes a similar person in my opiion to own one. There is a difference between the two though. IMO a Rot, Dobie, German Shepherd, etc. can be turned off. a Pit can not. Once it's on, it's on. This dog BELONGED to the kid and it turned on him. The story mentioned that the dog may have been provoked by other dogs. I bet I can tell you exactly what happened. The kid was out in the yard playing with his dog and some strays came around. The dog started getting riled up and the kid probably encouraged it thinking it was funny. Once the Pit got frustrated enough or "playful" enough he probably reached over and grabed the kid and shook. I'd be willing to bet the dog had no ill will towards the kid. It just happened. I dunno man. I've just always been a fan of the "a dog is what you make it" club and am about to jump ship. You mentioned that your Pit looks to you before it looks out the window and I think that's key. That leads me to believe that your dog (like mine) lives inside. It's TRUELY part of the family and knows it's palce in the "pack". Bleh, stepping off the soap box for a bit.

i think there is really something with this breed of dog . we dont hear stories like these about bigger , stronger dogs doing something like this. It's in their nature. I was watching this thing on AnimalPlanet and these guys took a newborn baby wolf and brought him in the house and brought up this wolf. Later on he started howling and tearing up things like a wolf even though he was brought up right with good people. So it's all in thei nature.

Unfortunately, it's usually the ignorant wangstas' that walk around with their pits with the heavy chains like if the dog is somehow an extension of their manhood that give the pits a bad rep. It's a damn shame how this noble breed of dog is being ruined by thugs and low-lifes. Can I get an Amen?
