it would be oil. you wouldn't have gas in your backyard unless you ate a lot of beans.

Why don't you all just wake up early and drive slower to work or wherever you may go.......that should give you an extra gallon or so.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Until we are all willing to do our individual parts in limiting our consumption of oil (demand) until a new source of fuel is found, the crisis will not be solved, and we will continue to be dependant on oil.
Yes if we drill the price will go down, but ultimately we will be back on this same boat in 15-20 years. The American consumer’s memory is short. If we were to drill now, the mindset of the American consumer will go back to, well things are good now. Why change? The only reason there is a high demand for hybrid vehicles or a call for either hydrogen or electric cars is because of the high gas prices. If the price of gas were to go back down the demand for new technology and the movement for energy independence would go with it. That is exactly what happened in the 70s and 80s. We had cars back then that got 25-35 miles to the gallon. But look what happened once the prices fell. If we really want to be energy independent we must first change how we do things as individuals.
Not, say well “I’m not going to change until the government or everyone else changes.”
I say keep the prices where they are. Force the consumer to push for new technology. Break oil’s strong hold on the American people, because we have shown the inability and/or unwillingness to do it on our own.

I have gotten 50-60 extra miles each of the last 2 tank loads on my F-150. I do a lot of highway driving and have reduced my speed 7-10 MPH and it is making a difference.

ill continue to say it again.......there milking the US with all this oil prices....and someone is making a pretty penny.... So? So what if someone else is making a pretty penny? Is that even a solution? Here is something for you, if it is such a stickler for you that someone else is making a pretty penny, why not buy less of their product?

I drive about 230 miles per week. I was filling up about every 7-8 days. I got an extra 3 days of driving on my last tank. I also started tapping the break to take off the cruise well before I get to expressway exits and started and slowing earlier before stop lights and signs.

via the net...
HIGH AND RISING world oil and food prices, the implosion of the US housing bubble and the ensuing consumer credit vapour lock have cash-strapped US consumers staying out of retail stores in droves, and this is forcing dozens of US retailers to close hundreds of stores.
Information technology related companies that are closing stores include CompUSA going out of business, Sprint Nextel closing 125 locations, Movie Gallery closing 560 movie rental outlets, and bankrupt Sharper Image shutting down 90 to 180 stores.
Other retailers shutting down shops are: Ann Taylor, 117 stores; Eddie Bauer, 29 stores; Cache, 20 to 23 stores; Lane Bryant, 150 stores; Talbots, 100 stores; Gap, 85 stores; Foot Locker, 140 stores; Wickes going out of business; Levitz going out of business; Zales, 105 stores; Disney, 98 stores; Home Depot, 15 stores; Macy's, 9 stores; Pep Boys, 33 stores; Ethan Allen, 12 stores; Wilsons, 158 stores; Pacific Sunwear, 228 stores; Bombay Company, 384 stores; KB Toys, 356 stores; and Dillards, six stores. Sheesh kebab!
The US financial sector has already been decimated by the fallout from the recent subprime mortgage fiasco. Workers laid off from financial services and retailing positions tend to get forced into lower-paying service jobs. But with consumers being squeezed by increasing gas and food prices, they're not driving and patronising bars and restaurants as often, so it is somewhat doubtful that all of those laid-off employees will be able to find other work soon.
It's hard not to think that the US economy might get worse before it starts getting better.
