NBC Commentator: "The heavily favored French bow to the Americans."
In the 4 x 100 where the French were doing the smack talk, the US Team got it done.
Way to go USA, Gold Medal # 2 for Phelps!

We have a Valleyite at the Olympics:Special to The MonitorSharyland graduate Sean McLelland will be taking aim at the men's Skeet Shooting Olympic gold medal on Aug. 15 and 16 at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Sharyland grad to take shot at Olympic goldAugust 11, 2008 - 3:07PM Todd Mavreles | The MonitorMISSION - Randy and Madelaine McLelland likely didn't envision the possibility their son, Sean, would one day compete in the Olympics. But the couple soon discovered he had a rare gift for nailing targets with uncanny accuracy after they took their young son out shooting almost 10 years ago at the local 4-H club. Today, 22-year-old Sean hopes to turn that accuracy into a medal at the 2008 Olympic Games getting under way in Beijing, where he is set to compete in the men's international skeet shooting competition Aug. 15 and 16. Steve Schultz, a McAllen-based shooting coach who has been with McLelland since the Sharyland High School graduate was 14, believes his protégé has the ability to make a name for himself in Beijing. He faces strong competition in teammate Vincent Hancock, Georgios Achilleos of Cyprus, Tore Brovold of Norway and Anthony Terras of France. "There's about eight guys in the world who can win that gold (medal)," Schultz said. "He just has to go out and execute and do his job. He's ready." McLelland was born in Brownsville and moved to Mission as a child. Living in Harlingen today, he often travels to Kerrville to shoot and train at an Olympic satellite shooting range. While McLelland showed an early aptitude for shooting, it wasn't until he enrolled at Lindenwood University in Missouri that his proclivity for skeet shooting was discovered at national selection matches. An All-American at Lindenwood, he jumped on the fast track to becoming one of the world's elite shooters. "It wasn't until I went to one of those (national selection) matches and found I had a serious talent for international skeet and really started shooting that in 2005 that this Olympic dream really came forward," McLelland said. "I had a realization at those matches in 2005 that I had the ability and talent to pursue this." Still, his Olympic dreams were almost put on hold during the second day of the 2008 Olympic Trials in Kerrville, where he had to overcome a two-shot disadvantage to qualify. "It was completely overwhelming. It was an unbelievable feeling," McLelland said. "After the last shot I took and broke the last target, I knew I made it. My eyes were filled with tears and I was full of joy that I got over the rollercoaster that were the Olympic Trials." Since making the team, McLelland has participated in a World Cup event in Germany and done some training in South Korea to prepare for the Beijing Olympics. "He's peaked right now," Schultz said. "He's shooting around 200 rounds a day. He's shooting lights out right now. He's really pumped up. "His scores every day on 150 to 200 targets, he's only dropping one or two targets." McLelland is confident he's ready to make his dreams of winning an Olympic medal come true. "I've been shooting the last two months and I definitely expect to medal. That's a goal," he said. "My confidence is very high going into this. I've been training really, really hard the last three months and I believe all the hard work is going to pay off." ____ Todd Mavreles is the West Valley Sports Editor. Bobby Morrow blazed a trail from Texas to Olympic gold and back, and changed the way the world thought about all Olympians. He was one of the fastest American sprinters ever. Training on a Texas farm, Morrow honed his lightning starts and sharpened his skills to dominate the 100- and 200-meter dashes in the 1950s. He qualified for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, joining an American team with an established pedigree. Between 1896 and 1952, American men won 44 Olympic medals in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
In Melbourne, Morrow continued the tradition. He captured gold in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, tying the world record in the latter. He won a rare third gold in the 4x100-meter relay, propelling the team to a world record. Morrow was the first man to win three gold medals at an Olympics since Jesse Owens' 1936 Berlin performance.

I ended up missing that basketball game yesterday (usa vs china) lol but good thing i came in here and olmypfan posted the link so i could check it out. Usa ended up blowing them out. They had kept saying how much of a big game it was gonna be, and really didn't end up that way. The US team continues to roll.

Yeah thats true china gave them a good game for the first couple of quarters. lol hell yeah he must of been working on it. Even after he made it, had a huge smile on his face. Good way for them to open the game. Wouldn't of expected that. But i mean you can just tell how much more athleticism the U.S brought to the table, diff talent level. I mean once they build up a decent lead they just never looked back, and made it look all too easy. Those 3 pointers by the chinese were the only thing keeping them in the game there for a while.
