The Torch Is Lit!
The man they chose to light the torch after "running" on air around the stadium was Li Ning, 1984 and '88 Olympic Gymnast from China...
Video of him in 1984:

I only got to watch bits of the opening ceremonies... Interesting how several of the flag bearers were basketball players -- announcers saying so the flags would be walked in waving high... I thought it was great that Yao Ming (China--Basketball) was accompanied by Lin Hao (later carried by Ming to watch celebration), a 9 year old little boy who survived the recent earthquake in China, and helped save others... I tried to find pics, but there are some at the nbcolympics site... Here: www.nbcolympics.com/photos/galleryid=184435.html

I really hope the USA Olympic team wins the overall medal count. Don't like the way it looks when we're third in the medal counts even if it is early. Some say China is the favorite to win the overall count, but I don't think it is gonna happen.

Yeah, looks like China got athletes to enter events the US and others sometimes don't focus on (like team handball, I think) just to boost their medal counts... People are referring to this Olympics as China's Medal Games...

Hey olympfan, when the olympics is over, does that mean we won't see you for another 4 years or do you do the winter as well?
