Re: Port Isabel vs Harlingen(scrimmage) « Reply #96 Today at 11:16am »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- just got back from the 'inter-squad" game for the cardinals, the team looked good, offense looked a little sloppy but it's still early, the defense looked big up front and pretty fast overall. the transfer from corpus christi, sorry to say just another player. very big kid, but slow and didn't even play much. you can see the difference in the offense by just seeing the different routes the receivers were running. DE mingo rincon didn't play but was walking around, so his injury doesn't look to be serious. backup QB looked good to me, was getting the ball out to his receivers and letting them do their thing. QB john murphy was all right, he came back this season looking in awesome shape, bigger and stronger. well i saw the inter-squad for PI today and we look a WHOLE lot better than last year, one of the biggest PI teams i have ever seen in a while, im not to sure if we have a fast team, but from what i saw a good decision maker at QB and a D that actually sticks and raps, and gang tackling

AND I BETTER SEE IT!!!!!!! haha..Man I can remember from the past 2 yrs. me and FBGAL would be saying after games how that specific aspect of the D would end up costing the game for the Tarpons...but I hope its true...and if thats the case seems like the SeaWall D is Rising from the Ashes!!

lol, yeah we did, didn't we Yankee. Well you and I are going to be soo happy, if we actually see a "sticks, wraps and gang tackling" defense again! That has been the missing ingredient IMO, however the speed factor is a concern to me. I rather have team with speed than a BIG team, but that's just me. In the playoffs, you have to have speed to compete well. BTW, when you (royalbluesince02) talk about speed are you talking about the skill positions or as a team in general? Because I know Diego Garcia is fast, so is some of the other RBs.

BTW, it's "Stick, and WRAP", not "Rap". I'm pretty sure our guys on the football field don't knock the snot out of someone, then start rapping about the PI project barrio or something.

Or it could be they were going against an offense that goes down easy....
Just Kidding....
This will be an interesting scrimmage but will not providea true indicator to Harlingen unless you only count what the 1st team does against the 1st team....
Harlingen a big 5a and will have 3rd stringers out there where PI will not have the same numbers so you could have Harlingen 2nd or 3rd team going against PI 1st Teamers...

Yea...win or lose doesn't really matter in a scrimmage. Just get your reps in and make sure everything is going according to plan. Oh...and cardinalcountry is right. I hope BOTH teams stay injury free because that is the most important thing.

Hand Injury? last year it was a leg injury, he sure does have bad luck with injuries. Hopefully it's not too serious, did this occur during practice? That's too bad, I was looking foward to watching play as the featured back. Well on a postive note, that will give those upcoming RBs some good reps.

I am kinda wishing the PI/Harlingen scrimmage would have been a preseason actual game. Now that would have been very, very interesting.

I am kinda wishing the PI/Harlingen scrimmage would have been a preseason actual game. Now that would have been very, very interesting. PI has played Los Fresnos when they were 5A, but the only reason why was because of the PI/LF "Battle of Highway 100" rivalry. Now, that game no longer exists. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see this go down as a non-district game, but I think the powers that be currently in PI would probably be like "why schedule Harlingen when we can put Los Fresnos back on the schedule, if we want to play a 5A team".

I am just talking about this particular game. All I meant was that I would just think that a real game situation instead of the scrimmage rules would have been good for the first meeting between PI and Harlingen. I know that PI would rather play LF in a non district game. Harlingen would rather play other teams too.
It just would have been better as a non district game is all I am saying. Scrimmages are for evaluating and getting in reps. They are not taken to seriously when it comes to winning and losing.

Maybe part of the scrimmage will include 1 or 2 quarters of live game conditions?

Yea I am sure it will. Don't get me wrong...I am not disappointed. I just wish it was 4 qtrs of live game conditions.

As per Coach Stumbaugh the game will be at Boggus Stadium. Gal, some interesting tidbits on how the game/scrimmage came about via PI's perspective at TarponFever.Net Main Football page
