EPalbino kind of has a little knowledge on this stuff. You might want to listen to what he has to say.

since you've already re-installed the driver and did a system restore, i'd say that it's the integrated sound card on the computer. you're gonna have to take it somewhere where they know how to fix it. geek squad i don't think would be able to swap out any old parts and put in broken one's because the sound card is integrated into the mother board so you MIGHT be able to take it to them without worrying about something like that. if it were a desktop i'd say for you to just buy a new soundcard, but for a laptop, they have to open it up and mess around with it.

If that's the case, just reboot

depending on what the process is, rebooting should solve the problem. the only thing with that is that when you run a system restore your computer reboots anyway. if after the system restore and the reboot you didn't get your sound back, you probably have a problem with the sound card.

usually the sound cards will last for as long as you have your computer, but a lot of times with "refurbished" or outdated cards, they will get overworked and burn out. i burned out two on my pc until i finally got one that could handle the amount of power the board was putting into it. your computer might've just blown out the sound card. have it checked, i'm pretty sure that's what the problem is...

whatever you do, do not go to "mr pc" in mcallen. geek squad should be able to help, but you might want to try and contact the manufacturer and see what they recommend for something like this.....
