My laptop just seemed to go mute. no sound is coming out of the speakers. i also tried using headphones but that doesnt work either so i know it not the speakers that are messed up. I tried rasing the volume full blast and its not muted. Any suggestions.

Can you system restore to right before this happened?
Run Adaware 2008 on it as well.

if you did a restore and your not muted, its a hardware problem...you have to take it to get fixed.

This has happened a few times with one of my desk tops. My usual solution was the system restore back a few weeks before it happened. Call tech support if that doesn't work.

There are a lot of things that can go wrong with laptops. What people have suggested on here are all good places to start. If it is under warranty, call Toshiba. They have good techies and usually get stuff squared away. If it is out of warranty, go to Toshiba's support website and look at the FAQs. You might find what you need there. There are also Toshiba Users who discuss their problems in different places on the web. One of those places I am linking here. Scroll down to the middle of the page where it says Best Solution. There are very detailed instructions on how to check your hardware. www.fixya.com/support/t316550-sound_driverBy the way, are you using Windows XP or Vista? Vista has a lot of quirks that might be affecting the sound.
