Does anyone in here think that Promoter Bob Arum & Pacman are copying Mayweathers blueprint for success? Mayweather challenged Baldomir, the titleholder who was slow and weak and was completely dominated by Mayweather------> Pacman challenges Diaz, titleholder slow and weak and dominates him.
Mayweather moved up to welterweight to get his dream fight against De La Hoya 1 weight class higher--------> Pacman plans to move up 1 class higher to fight Hatton.
Neither of em care about the B rate fighters in their divison or the guys who moved up in hopes of facing them in the future, who stay fighting amongst themselves unsuccessfully chasing the A list fighter. Except with Bob Arum on his side, you wont hear anybody saying Pacman is "ducking"

Damn....Jeff Lacy fell off the face of the earth for a while....
All you had to say on Manny Pac is that he is promoted by Bob Arum....I wish Pacman would have been promoted by Golden Boy when he signed with them a few fights ago....His flaws have been exposed by Marquez, so he is running for the hills..

Pacquiao-Soto in December?
Tuesday, July 1 2008
WBC withholds recognition of Lorenzo
Promoter Fernando Beltran says his fighter Humberto Soto is lined up to face WBC lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao in December. Although dominating Francisco Lorenzo in Saturday night's Pacquiao-Diaz co-featured bout, Soto was disqualified for hitting Lorenzo while he was on the deck after being knocked to his knees. Referee Joe Cortez' handling of the fight, the confusion after the end of the fight, and the final result have caused criticism and controversy. Soto has called Cortez a racist and claims Cortez allowed Lorenzo to hit him with illegal blows while "disqualifying a clean fighter like me."
The Soto-Lorenzo fight was for the WBC interim 130lb belt, however despite the DQ the WBC has not recognized Lorenzo as champion. The sanctioning organization plans to review a tape of the fight before rendering a final decision. The Lorenzo camp says they'll go to court if Lorenzo is not awarded the title.

Schaefer went into further detail saying he's been in contact with Trinidad's Promoter, Don King as well as Trinidad's attorney. "I talked to King and (Trinidad attorney Nicholas) Medina. They are definitely interested and I think a deal could be made. Oscar gave me clear instructions to make the biggest possible fight," said Schaefer.

Lorenzo won't get title!
Tuesday, July 1 2008
WBC declares Soto-Lorenzo a no-contest
The WBC has ruled that their 130lb interim title will not go to Francisco Lorenzo, even though Lorenzo received a controversial disqualification win over Humberto Soto in a WBC title fight on Saturday night in Las Vegas. WBC President Jose Sulaiman today announced that the WBC sees the fight as a "no contest" and Lorenzo not be getting the belt despite being declared the winner. Sulaiman called the DQ "one of the greatest injustices I've seen in a long time." The official Fight Fax records, however, will reflect the result as a disqualification win for Lorenzo, barring an unlikely change made by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

James Toney and Hasim Rahman on Fox Sports tonight at 11:00pm ( )
Los Angeles, CA (July 1, 2008) – Heavyweights James “Lights Out” Toney and Hasim “The Rock” Rahman will make an appearance on FSN's "Best Damn Sports Show Period" tonight, July 1 at 11:00pm local time. Both Toney and Rahman will discuss their Championship rematch on Wednesday, July 16 that will take place in Southern California’s Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula. The scheduled 12-round NABO Heavyweight Championship Bout -- presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions, Don King Productions and in association with Top Rank, Inc. – will headline an FSN's "Best Damn Fight Night" broadcast (11 pm EST Live/8 pm PST).
Toney (70-6-3, 43 KO) felt certain that he had taken the WBC World Heavyweight title from Rahman (45-6-3, 36 KO) when they collided in Atlantic City back in March 2006. However, the former world titleholder in the middleweight, super middleweight, cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions came up just short with the judges scoring the bout a draw.
Because Rahman honored a mandatory defense commitment against top WBC contender Oleg Maskaev – which he lost via TKO in the 12th round five months after narrowly escaping Toney – a rematch never materialized for Toney. That will change on July 16 with a probable title shot for the winner and a ride into the sunset for the loser.

Malignaggi won't step aside!
Thursday, July 3 2008
IBF light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi is 'just waiting for the final word' before confirming his hotly anticipated fight against IBO light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton. In an interview with Setanta Sports News during Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour, Malignaggi was quick to dismiss rumours that he had been offered 'step-a-side' money to make way for Manny Pacquiao. The self styled 'Magic Man' made it clear that Hatton was firmly in his sights. "I'm going to fight Ricky in the fall. It's an opportunity I've been waiting for. I think if I took step-a-side money I'd basically be selling out and not giving myself the opportunity I've always craved." Malignaggi added that he learned from his lackluster performance against Lovemore N'dou earlier in the year. "I was trying too hard to impress everybody out there. I think I should have concentrated on impressing everyone with my performance," he said. "But I managed to pull out the win and I look ahead to the future. Believe me; I'll redeem myself with my performance in the fall [against Hatton]."

Valuev-Ruiz in the works!
Thursday, July 3 2008
Negotiations have started between representatives of the WBA's top two rated heavyweight contenders, ex-WBA champion Nikolai "The Russian Giant" Valuev and former two-time WBA titleholder John "The Quietman" Ruiz, respectively, to fight for the WBA "regular" heavyweight championship belt. The Valuev-Ruiz will be obliged to fight "champion in recess" Ruslan Chagaev by June 26, 2009. "We’re happy to get an opportunity to fight for the WBA title again," Ruiz said from Argentina. The fight would be a rematch of their closely contested December 2005 bout won by Valuev via majority decision.

Mayweather gives first interview since retirement
Floyd Mayweather: "I achieved all I wanted to achieve." GRAND RAPIDS -- Floyd Mayweather, in his first post-retirement interview, ripped HBO's boxing announcers for what he perceives as racist treatment, said he anticipates becoming a billionaire before the end of 2008, and offered little hint at reneging on his decision to retire at 31, while undefeated and the reigning pound-for-pound king.
"I've been telling you for the longest that I'm getting tired," Mayweather said Friday, four weeks after he announced his retirement via a June 6 press release. "There's nothing more to be done."
Mayweather, during a half-hour exclusive interview, reflected on his amateur career, his image, his media treatment, and his decision to retire with a 39-0 record and leave a mid-eight-figures windfall on the table for a rematch against Oscar De La Hoya.
Mayweather-De La Hoya II tentatively was scheduled for Sept. 20 but contracts never were signed.
Money was not the issue, Mayweather said.
"Every day, I was telling Leonard, 'I don't really want to fight,' " Mayweather said, in reference to discussions with his adviser, Leonard Ellerbe. "Leonard didn't really say much, because Leonard loves boxing. That's his passion, not sitting around on the phone, making deals all day. It's pretty easy now to make deals, when you've got the name Floyd Mayweather. But in the beginning, it was real, real tough."
Those deals earned the Grand Rapids native about $100 million in gross purses -- and much more outside the ring, according to him -- and the newly retired athlete said he has some nouveau-riche purchases pending to enjoy that wealth: A new $26 million jet, a new $18.5 million Las Vegas home, another home worth $11 million in Miami, and a $20 million yacht.
"I was truly, truly blessed to have good people around me and I was smart during my career," he said. "I made great investments. By the end of this year, I should be a billionaire."
Asked how he could have accrued so much wealth so quickly, he replied, "I went from the ring to Wall Street, that's all I can tell people."
Mayweather had plenty more to say in his first post-retirement interview:
HBO announcers: In a scathing Fourth of July criticism, certain to launch post-holiday fireworks at HBO's New York offices, Mayweather accused the network's announcing crew of several biases against him, and a broader bias against black fighters in general.
"Even a guy like Jim Lampley, he praises Kelly Pavlik -- who has won some good fights, he beat Jermain Taylor twice, we have to give him credit for that -- but they talk about Kelly Pavlik, a white fighter, like he's the second coming Or they go crazy over Manny Pacquiao. But I'm a black fighter," Mayweather said. "Is it racial? Absolutely. They praise white fighters, they praise Hispanic fighters, whatever. But black fighters, they never praise.
"I've noticed it for a long time but I couldn't say anything because I had to do business with them. I'll still do business with them, but I'm done holding my tongue. I think HBO is great. But their announcers are full of (expletive)."
Playing the villian: On why he flourished as a brash, often villainous character, even though almost everyone outside his circle discouraged it, Mayweather said he "forced it" on the public, through charisma and talent.
"I forced it on them, and there was nothing they could do about it," he said. "And if I did want to come back, I was going to make, what, $50 million (for the De La Hoya rematch)? You know what, don't call my phone unless you've got $100 million."
Is it really the end? On whether that statement lends credence to widespread speculation that he eventually will fight again, considering his age and top-of-food-chain career position, Mayweather stood firm.
"I'm through," he said. "Once I tell people I'm through, I'm through. People say, 'Oh, he retired and came back, after the De La Hoya fight.' I didn't retire and come back. I just fought one more fight, against Ricky Hatton. And as soon as I beat him, it was, 'What about this guy?' and 'What about that guy?' It's never good enough. Some boxing people weren't going to be happy until I take a loss, and that's not ever going to happen. I achieved all I wanted to achieve.
"When I'm 50 or 60, I want to be able to know my kids, and I want them to know me. I want all five senses to be sharp, sharp as a razor. I want to be able to live my life. That's one thing I'll say about my father, he gets around real, real good. My mother gets around real, real good. I want to be like that."
Reflections: On his list of proudest achievements, names of prominent opponents never were mentioned.
"You saw, at the age of 16, going to the National Golden Gloves after just 15 junior fights, and winning the national championship," he said. "Then, people said I couldn't do it again without my father, and I did it again the next year, at 112 pounds, without my father. Then, I jumped straight to 125 pounds, won three national championships, went to the Olympics, took a controversial loss, went pro, won world championships in five weight divisions. I made the impossible possible."
No peers: On the identity of the new pound-for-pound king -- generally considered to be Pacquiao, the lightweight champion from The Philippines -- Mayweather said he had no opinion on the debate anymore.
"I'm so far ahead of those other bums, I couldn't even tell you," he said.

Mayweather rips HBO announcers for racial bias
Jim LampleyGRAND RAPIDS -- Floyd Mayweather, who often heard himself pointedly criticized on HBO boxing telecasts, responded in kind Friday, during his first post-retirement interview.
Mayweather criticized the network's announcers for a bias against black fighters, and for not treating their own indiscretions as seriously as those committed by people they cover, during an exclusive interview with The Press.
"Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant, Emanuel Steward, they're always talking about the negative things in my life," Mayweather said. "But I've seen Jim Lampley in the same strip club as me before. They always want to talk about me going to strip clubs, but they don't want to talk about that.
Mayweather, the Grand Rapids native who returned home this weekend to host a holiday carnival and entertainment festival, was convicted on four counts of misdemeanor assault, and pleaded no contest to another, earlier in his career.
The convictions often proved fruitful topics for television one-liners.

"He caught a court case himself, too. But when they catch a case, all they do is take them off the air a couple weeks, then it's over."
Lampley, the lead announcer on HBO boxing, last year received three years' probation for violating a restraining order brought by a live-in girlfriend who accused him of domestic abuse. Lampley never was charged on the original abuse complaint.
HBO televised 21 of Mayweather's last 22 fights, either on its main network or pay-per-view arm.
The two sides have quibbled before, most notably after Mayweather in 1999 called a long-term offer from the network a "slave contract." The fallout led to more than a year of acrimony, during which Mayweather fought two low-level bouts on HBO, one of them a non-title match.
Mayweather ultimately signed a reworked long-term contract with the network, beginning with his 2001 breakthrough win over the late Diego Corrales.
Mayweather reserved most of his criticism Friday for HBO's announcers, though he did blame network executives for participating in a sequence of high-level business events which forced him to plead no contest to an assault he insists he did not commit.
Mayweather was charged in conjunction with the 2003 incident at The Radio Tavern, later destroyed in a fire, where bouncer William Morris -- a former school mate of Mayweather's -- was beaten and bloodied.
Mayweather denied the charge, but negotiations for his first pay-per-view main event, against Arturo Gatti, stalled when Gatti's promoter, Main Events, insisted Mayweather resolve the case first.
Mayweather in 2005 pleaded no contest, then rendered the Gatti fight no contest in a six-round pummeling.
He now says HBO sided with Main Events in pushing him to cop a plea.
"In the past, different things have gone on in my life, like that case in Grand Rapids," Mayweather said. "I know I didn't do anything wrong. But they said they couldn't make the fight if I didn't resolve that case. So I had to plead no contest to something I didn't do.
"I'm not going to do that, because that's not me. That's not who I am. That's not how I live. But I had to plead to something I didn't do because I wanted the Gatti fight, and HBO said they weren't going to make the fight while that case was hanging."
Mayweather was aware of the stir his comments will cause after they circulate this holiday weekend.
"I'm happy. I feel clear. I feel free as a bird," he said. "I feel good that I can finally speak out, and say the things I want to say."
He said HBO should return to a format in which a prominent former boxer serves as an analyst. Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman, Lennox Lewis, Roy Jones and Kevin Kelley are among the former champions who have served on the network's telecasts in years past.
"There aren't any fighters commentating on boxing, that's the problem," Mayweather said. "They need to go to gyms, really learn what they're talking about. I'm not going to comment on stuff I don't know."
Mayweather said he isn't interested in the job.
