Williams-Margarito rematch?
Wednesday, August 6 2008
Promoter Dan Goossen says he's presented a writen offer to Top Rank for a rematch and title unification clash between WBO welterweight champion Paul "The Punisher" Williams (34-1, 25 KOs) and WBA welter king Antonio Margarito (37-5, 27 KOs). "The offer to Top Rank for the Williams-Margarito rematch is quite simple," Goossen said. "Goossen Tutor would guarantee $4,000,000 to Top Rank/Margarito against a 50% split of net revenues. This is a major fight for our sport and one that would draw tremendous fan and media interest....I'm sure Margarito's fans want to see him redeem himself against Williams and I know fans of Paul Williams want to see him put Margarito in his place again while unifying the WBO and WBA welterweight titles." Williams dethroned Margarito in July 2007, taking a close decision in Carson, CA.

Here is what Kellerman said friday night?
"Not just the welter weight division but Margarito has sent shock waves that are still reverbating though out boxing. Lets start with Delahoya who has always looked a fearless champion he has always looked for the biggest baddest challenge he can find. After watching Margarito destroy Cotto, Delahoya is looking for the smallest challenge physically at least in philipino boxer Manny pacquiao, guy who came from fly weight upto light weight still not at a welter weight. Now Mayweather Jr. Floyd retired ostensibly his stated reason is that his legacy is secured and he has nothing left to prove. While this is true of the light weight classes at welter weight the preception is that you did not take on your toughest challenges and in fact ducked them. Antonio Margarito after that performance against Miguel Cotto people are talking in barbershops, street corners, around the country and in Mexico, floyd mayweather not only doesnt want to fight mar he can't beat him. Floyd if you retire cause you feel your legacy is secure you need to unretire to secure if on the other hand if you retired because you interest in boxing has wained in that case stay retired cause no one with one foot in boxing and one foot out should take on the welter weight champion of the world."

Margarito, Cotto clean!
Thursday, August 7 2008
After Antonio Margarito's superman-like performance against Miguel Cotto on July 26, there were rumors swirling around (mostly from Puerto Rico) that Margarito had used steriods or banned substances. However, those rumors have now been quashed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which has confirmed that both Margarito and Cotto passed all pre- and post-tests.

Mayorga-Mosley Presser! Thursday, August 7 2008 A press conference was held today in Los Angeles for the September 27 clash between former world champions Sugar Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California. "It will be a short fight," promised Mayorga. "It will not go longer than three rounds. I will plan on retiring Shane....after I beat Shane, I will fight his boss (Oscar De La Hoya) in a rematch!" Mosley said, "Mayorga's a big talker and I know things are going to heat up between us, but I've been down this road before. All the talking in the world isn't going to help him when we step into the ring, that's where Mayorga will have to eat his words."

Margarito will take by decision. It is hard to hurt Clottey. I think he said something like "I never feel pain, i will never be hurt" after his victory over judah.Somehow i believe him.

De La Hoya-Pacquiao Update: Arum, Schaefer remain upbeat!
Friday, August 8 2008
Despite the impasse in negotiations regarding a mouth-watering duel in December between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao, Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank remain confident the fight will take place. "Hopefully, we get something resolved next week. Our meeting was very productive (although) nothing is resolved," Arum told The Manila Bulletin/Fightnews on Thursday afternoon (Wednesday night in the US).
GBP Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer likewise told the Manila paper that "basically the open points came down to weight, size of gloves (8 oz or 10 oz) and the overall percentage split.....Bob and I laid the foundation to get a deal done but now it will be up to Manny and Oscar. Both fighters will have to give in a bit on the various points and find a compromise. My understanding is that Bob will talk to Manny once he is back from Bejing and I will talk to Oscar once he is back from Puerto Rico sometime next week," said Schaefer. "In the end it will not be Bob and I who will enter the ring but Oscar and Manny. If they can not be satisfied with the deal then both will have no choice but to move on and look at other options. It is not up to Bob and me anymore but rather up to the fighters. The deal on the table would ensure a career high payday for Manny," added Schaefer.
"I think both sides want to make a deal," Arum said. If a deal is not made, Arum said he would arrange a fight involving Pacquiao against Humberto Soto of Mexico on Nov. 1 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
