Arce returns September!
Monday, August 11 2008
WBA will recognize three 115lb champions
Former world champion Jorge "Travieso" Arce (49-4-1, 37 KOs) will return on September 15 to challenge titleholder Rafael Concepcion (11-2-1, 7 KOs) for the WBA interim super flyweight championship. The bout will take place at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. Concepcion is cetainly wasting no time getting back in the ring. He just won the title on July 26, upsetting AJ Banal in Cebu, Philippines. The WBA's super flyweight "super" Champion Cristian Mijares is slated to face Chatchai Sasakul on August 30, with Nobuo Nashiro and Kohei Kono slated to go for the WBA "regular" title, also on September 15. This will give the WBA three recognized world champions in the 115lb division.

Brownsville’s own Gilbert “Chicano ” Guevara (7-4-1, 2 KO's) will face the20unbeaten and current Texas Welter champion Ramon “Lino” Gatica (10-0, 5 KO’s) on the ever popular Marines Boxing Promotions Texas “Cup Series” in Brownsville at the Jacob Brown Auditorium on Friday night, August 15th. Guevara looks to give the Brownsville boxing aficionados an early gift by taking Gatica’s welterweight title and giving Ramon his first defeat in a scheduled 8 round Texas State Championship fight. Gatica’s management has been calling out Guevara for the past year and Gilbert is willing to grant them their wishes. Former WBC Youth Welterweight champion, "King" James De La Rosa (17-0, 12 KO's) has been sparring with Gilbert to help him get ready for Guevara's challenge for the Texas welterweight championship. Despite James not fighting till October on Showtime he is helping out Guevara now, by sparring with Gilbert in a southpaw stance since Guevara's opponent (Ramon Gatica) is a left handed fighter. All of Guevara's losses have been against tough opposition and has faced tough opponents through out his boxing career, Gilbert feels this is the fight to turn things around for him with hopes to landing on bigger and better fights. The exciting fight card promoted by Marines Promotions, will also feature Brownsville’s champion and also undefeated bantamweight Sergio "Time To Shine" Perales (5-0, 4 KO's) who looks to continue his climb up the latter of the boxing ranks along with undefeated up and coming Super-Lightweight prospect, Humberto "El Terror" Ramos (7-0, 5 KO's). Jr-middleweight Raul "El Tigre" Casarez (12-2, 5 KO's) will be fighting on the card as well as the special featured attraction, Heavyweight Homer “El OSO” Fonseca (4-2, 2 KO's) who is back in Btown by popular demand. sounds like a good card. i've been watching guevara since he was an amateur. sergio is a good fighter with quick hands. OSO is fun to watch. that guy can take whatever anyone can dish out and can also deliver some good punishment himself. el tigre is pretty good also. i think i've seen him at the gym before. i believe there's a picture of him up on the wall at the gym

Pacquiao-De La Hoya update!
Wednesday, August 13 2008
Manny Pacquiao will come out with an official statement Thursday in Manila (Wednesday in the US) whether he will face Oscar De La Hoya on Dec. 6 in Las Vegas. "Manny Pacquiao will issue a statement tomorrow (Thursday)," said Pacquiao lawyer Franklin Gacal from General Santos City. "Out of respect for (Top Rank chief) Bob Arum, we will make the announcement tomorrow." Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) has already forwarded the final document containing the financial terms to Pacquiao and even Bob Arum told The Manila Bulletin/Fightnews that "we will know within the next 24 hours" if it will push through or not. Pacquiao was on a medical mission on Wednesday in South Cotabato but has been briefed about the contents of the GBP counter-proposal. Last Tuesday, Pacquiao also told the paper that there is a "75 percent" likelihood that the De La Hoya bout will materialize. Both have agreed to meet at 147 lbs (or less) during the official weighin and that 8 oz gloves will also be used in the clash being penciled for the 17,000-seat MGM Grand. In the event the De La Hoya fight doesn't happen, Arum will pit Pacquiao against Humberto Soto of Mexico on Nov. 1 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The equally-dangerous Soto, according to Arum, has been put on stand-by status.
