Good luck to Mission and Mercedes this weekend. It would be nice to see an All Valley Final in Waco. Heres the preview from Texas Prep Insider
Waco Midway SQT Preview
By Matthew Stepp DFW Writer Posted Jun 24, 2008
It's the final week of SQT and teams are taking one last shot at qualifying! Matt Stepp takes a look at Waco Midway's 8 team SQT and Matt Diggs chimes in with picks!
Waco Midway has stepped up at the last minute and is hosting a last chance SQT with 8 teams and one of the 8 will clinch a spot in the 7 on 7 State Tournament July 11-12 at Texas A&M. POOL A
Waco Midway- Despite having not qualified for the State Tournament since 2005, Midway is still one of the top 7 on 7 outfits in all of Central Texas. The Panthers advanced to the semi-finals at their own May 31 SQT and that was without QB Todd Glaseman who was still playing baseball. RB John Hubert leads the way for the Panthers on offense. MHS is the heavy favorite to not only win the pool, but also to qualify.
Belton- The Tigers have already qualified for the State Tournament and they are looking for one final tuneup before the State Tournament. I don’t see Belton having much success as they finished third in a very weak Lake Travis qualifier and I don’t see them faring well at Texas A&M.
Mission- The Eagles had a strong tournament two weeks ago as they hosted a SQT but the failed to advance out of pool play. Mission did post a 2-1 record and they are going to make the LONG trip up from the Valley to make a final push for the State Tournament. Keep an eye on WR J.P. Gonzalez and DB Joaquin Rios, if Mission can sneak up on Midway we could see an all-Valley final.
Bastrop- The Bears took their lumps at Temple two weeks ago in their debut SQT. However usually in the second SQT a team fares much better and Bastrop will be at full strength and I think that earns BHS at least one win in pool play. WR Reshawn Lincoln is still learning but he’s got big time potential.
Little Matt’s Pick: Waco Midway
Big Matt’s Pick: Waco Midway
POOL B
Lampasas- The Badgers are taking a final shot at qualifying for the State Tournament after failing to qualify at the first Waco Midway SQT and at Lake Travis. LHS is led by WR’s Aaron Reyna and Cole Ball.
Cedar Park Vista Ridge- The Rangers have had two near misses in their SQTs this year as they went 2-1 in both SQTs but overtime losses to Georgetown and Stephenville respectively held VRHS out of advancing. Vista Ridge is very fast and athletic and with a strong QB in Taylor McHargue they are very dangerous.
Temple- The Wildcats qualified for their second straight State Tournament last week with a second place finish at Brownwood. Top to bottom there may not be a team in the state with as much sheer athleticism at THS. RB Lache Seastrunk and WR Tevin Reese are flat out fun to watch.
Mercedes- Another fun team to watch is Mercedes who will also be making the long road trip up from the Valley. MHS plays an unconventional style of 7 on 7 that causes teams fits. They have a big time talent in RB Alex Trevino who is as talented as anyone in the state. That combined with the odd style Mercedes plays and I think they win the pool in an upset.
Little Matt’s Pick: Mercedes
Big Matt’s Pick: Cedar Park Vista Ridge
FINALS
Little Matt’s Pick: Waco Midway over Mercedes
Big Matt’s Pick: Waco Midway over Cedar Park Vista Ridge

maybe if the coaches from mercy would save alex a little bit instead of playing him both ways all the time, they might be in a better position to win some of these games late.

there's coaches for the 7on7 team. they have to have coaches to participate. well, they have to have someone on the sideline, but usually that means a coach.

We never had anyone on the sideline in 7on7. Coaches just told us to run what we wanted but don't go all crazy. Make it a game situation. Usually made the QB in charge of the O and MLB in charge of D.
