Sorry! but Rio Hondo or Santa Rosa should not be in the top 10! Give me a break. Dont get all mad and say RH shouldnt be in the top ten just cause some of your coaches decided to go to a better school.....like RH...its ok HSS will get a win or two this season....

Sorry! but Rio Hondo or Santa Rosa should not be in the top 10! Give me a break. And by that train of thought your mighty Hawks or any other 5A Valley ball club should not be in the State top 10 or 20 either.

I also agree with Lemon that both PI and RH should be in the top 10. Remember dude's that this is supposed to be how you perform within your respective classification. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

I’ve never been a fan of having a Valley top ten, cause you always have folks like exhawk who will come on here and make that same old nonsense claim. Well head-to-head a 3A would not beat a 5A, and only the elite 3 & 4A teams could give a 5A team a competitive game. Well that is true but that is why we have classifications. With that mind set teams like La Feria, Raymondville, Wes E and so on would be extreme long shots at making the valley top 10.
That is why I like to create two lists, 5A (top 10) and Sub-5A (top 5). Cause lets face it, true top 5A teams are in a class of their own, and should not lose to a team in a lower classifications (notice the “SHOULD NOT” – before anyone starts the “well EE could beat….” argument)
With that said, here are my lists:
5A
1) Harlingen 2) Los F 3) Donna 4) Harl South 5) San Benito 6) McAllen 7) PSJA 8) PSJA N 9) Mc Memorial 10) Bro Rivera – call me crazy but I like their chances.
Sub 5A 1) EE 2) PI 3) Mercedes 4) WE 5) Raymondville

How can playing a very good football team in preseason be a mistake? That may be the difference between harlingen and LF right there. Harlingen doesn't want to protect their preseason record to make themselves look good. They want to get better as a team. That is what will make them better come playoff time. By the way, don't you think harlingen will be salivating at the mouth also??? The Cards get up for big games....always have...always will...and this is a big game. Don’t tell the RH peeps that. They’ll go crazy. Saying things like it helps build the teams confidence. <scoffs>

I think its a little to early to post our top ten poll. We should wait until the play their first scrimmage. But if everyone is going to post might as well post mine. 1 Harlingen 2 E-E 3 Donna 4 Los Fresnos 5 McHigh 6 PSJA 7 PI 8 PSJA North 9 San Bene 10 Rio Hondo.

New coach, new offensive schemes and several missing pieces on defense, do not make for a good combination. Also, with the extremely tough non-district schedule, RH could lose most if not all 3 of those games. Not to mention having to play PI early on in district play. (Not sure who their first district opponent is) The coach may start to think that the schemes they are running are not working and will try to change things up. It is very plausible that RH starts the season off 2-3, possibly 1-4. Depending whom they play in week 4, while a stretch 0-5, could easily become a reality. I don’t think RH would be on anyone’s top 5 if either of those scenarios played themselves out.

The only problem with one poll is that once a sub 5A team loses they are almost automatically out of the running. It is a lot easier for an 8-2 5A team to be in the top ten than an 8-2 3A team.

reason i asks is cause you have Harlingen South at #4 and IMO they lose alot more than just pieces compared to RH......

Uhmm, no, don’t flatter yourself BIB, that’s not it. Besides isn’t RH peep’s motto stop living in the past? Maybe you should take some of your own advice.
It’s more like; I’m just not all that familiar with the 5A ranks.

South has lost coaches and a lot of starters. They might be in some trouble. Unfortunately, it looks as if the Hawks will be in the "perfect storm" this year. Too bad for the kids over there. That said, there should still be a corps of kids over there who are hungry to show everyone how wrong they are. Any word on the coaching situation?
