Editor's note: The DCTF Road Tour kicked off Friday night in Lake Travis and will make nine more stops (see schedule at right) across the state. We'll post updates and reactions from every stop on the trail.
6/18/08: Hear the roar of the DCTF road tour
Once again, the Rio Grande Valley never fails to deliver the high temperatures both on the thermometer and in terms of football fever.
We had a massive crowd at the Rio Grande Livestock and Rodeo complex in Mercedes last night. Bands, cheerleaders, pep squads, drumline members all made tonight's event one of our all time best. As we left, Mr. Campbell said that while he was sure this was probably one of our best crowds in 10 years of the tour, it was CERTAINLY the loudest. Between the drumline and the band under a metal roof at the rodeo complex, I think we were heard for miles!
We are always tickled when various city and/or school officials are present. I think we had the power trio in Mercedes as we were greeted by the Mayor, School Superintendent, and School Principal (again, note my poor reporting skills for lack of names).
That said, as an update to last night's story on the fan who reported to Round Rock Westwood's event with issues 1960-1969: Somewhere there is a joke about the difference between a reporter and a salesman. If you recall, I forgot to get the name of the fan with all the old books--conclusion - Adam is a bad reporter (Always get the 5 W's answered chiefly "who").
Well, I forgot I gave him my business card and he sent me an email this morning -- conclusion -- Adam is not a bad salesman (always give out your card). Happy to report, Mr. Bill Stehling of Austin was among those who have a complete collection of Dave Campbell's Texas Football.
We are off to visit one of the better nicknamed schools in Texas: the Port Lavaca Calhoun Sand Crabs. See you in Southeast Texas.

6/17/08: Westwood Warriors bring our fans, media, and collectables
Greetings from Round Rock everyone. Just got back from another wild stop in Central Texas. Thanks to our hosts, coach Anthony Wood and booster club president Chriss Freeman, we had a fantastic event for the Round Rock Westwood Warriors at Rudy's BBQ in the hill country of Texas.
Between the 100's of fans, cheerleaders, and players, it was quite a party and some really good food supplied by Rudy's. We also had Craig Way, voice of the Texas Longhorns, and Channels 42 and 7 out to witness the event.
Sooner or later, we get a visitor that has a most impressive collection of books. As you will see from the photos, we had a gentleman who had Mr. Campbell sign the entire 60's decade after hearing about our stop on the radio.
I have a 1960 original and while it is still readable, it truly shows its age. The gentleman (ok, did not get his name--you can tell who the real reporters are with this magazine) a 1960 issue that looked like it was just bought at a local drugstore.
I think the autograph he received made the magazine more valuable in his mind -- if that is possible.
We are off the the Valley today. Won't be too hot will it? -- Adam Hochfelder
6/16/08: Westwood update
Yes, we're still heading to Rudy's ... but not the one originally reported. For tonight's RR Westwood appearance, head to Rudy's BBQ at the location listed to the right (FM 620).
If this causes you to run a tad late, we'll save some BBQ (and magazines) for you ...
6/14/08: Lake Travis stop
Another year, another summer, another Dave Campbell's Texas Football Road Tour.
For our 10th anniversary, where better to start than with the defending 4A State Champs, the Lake Travis Cavaliers, the preseason No. 1 team in Class 4A.
Protected from a sweltering summer day in the Texas Hill Country by the great folks at Guranty Bank off RR 620 in Lakeway, we had a great visit with new Coach Chad Morris and the entire community.
Along with Dave Campbell, these trips usually brings out fans who have their favorite story about when they were in the book or their child. One proud father told me that he hopes to see his son (7th grader in Lakeway) in the magazine like he was in the 1990 book for Austin High.
That got me thinking....I wonder if we have any Grandfather-Father-Son trios in the books spanning back over our 49 years.
On this Father's Day Weekend, email us any two or three generation stories from our books from year's past. We'd love to hear from you.
