I know for a fact that we as the RGV can get past the 3rd round. We have some great teams in the Valley. We just have to prove it. This includes all the classifications in the RGV.

im confident a valley team will surpass the 3rd round this season.
Earlier, i was wondering to myself, i wonder what kind of team could be put together had there been only one high school for all the midvalley!

well what should be bulletin board material for you guys ends up being a joke up here in sa....its the 3rd round of the playoffs and is dubbed
VALLEY WEAK
the week the big mighty san antonio schools play the weak valley schools....i tried to defend rgv teams but was made to look silly at various parties in the area at the time...i don't know if it can happen, it should, but will it, i doubt it...when the compadre system stops then maybe there's a chance

Valley teams need to stop being so easily intimidated by the SA teams. (5A anyway)
The most important thing each and every player needs to know is that the kids in SA are also human just like the kids in the RGV are. We are all human, and mistakes are bound to happen. The RGV team just needs to do their best to not make any mistakes, and make 100% sure they capitalize on any mistakes the SA team makes.

Alot of times the valley teams just end up shooting themselves in the foot. The valley teams are in the game but mistakes just end up costing them. I am not saying that they would have won every game but they would have been ALOT closer games. I know harlingen has had their fair share of mistakes.
The teams are getting better at keeping the games respectable for the most part but THE VALLEY IS GETTING BETTER and it won't be "valley WEAK" for much longer. The valley as a whole will start winning these games. The hard work and dedication these kids put into their teams will pay off.

It is very possible to beat an SA school. The problem has to be with the coaching because I've heard some coaches say that their goal is to either win the district championship or get into the playoffs. Why not say "boy's our goal this year is to win the state championship and nothing less".

Heck, SR did it last year against the previously undefeated Universal City Randolph and we were heavy underdogs prior to that game. Final SR 26-UCR 6

Ya, kinda like RPM said, the thread title still casts doubts... you should change it to something more positive like We Can Beat Em!
Then throw in something like... RGV's Weslaco scored twice as more points on SA Madison than any REGULAR SEASON opponent SA Madison played including Smithson Valley and Converse Judson. Did Weslaco give up points?- without a doubt but consider RGV's (7-4) Edinburg North put up only 10pts less than San Antonio's 2nd best team. ORHow a (6-7) RGV La Joya team lost by less points to Converse Judson in the playoffs than a (11-3) SA Reagan and Galena Park North Shore that went (14-1)

You made some excellent point there nfcfan.
IMO, you have to play perfect ball atleast on one side of the ball to have a chance. Weslaco High proved they could move the ball on Madison and score, but 2 turnovers in the 2nd half, one in the endzoned sealed there fate.
PS, week zero is a non district game. It doesn't get you into the playoffs. The most important game is your first district game, not a meaningless non district game.

I agree with the shooting themselves in the foot. McAllen Memorial giving up 2 fumbles for tds in their one point loss to SA MacArthur is a classic example. As for beating SA teams, it can be done. Just look at '90 Mission and '99 Edinburg. Only problem is they are too few and far between.
