What you have below is a complete history of high school football in the largest classification in extreme South Texas over the first 29 years of the modern era (since the UIL expanded to 5 classifications in 1951). From 1951-1979 there were 2 State Champions to come from the South Texas district and 9 Region Champions. You can really see the statewide dominance that the Corpus Christi Powers (Ray and Miller) had in the 1950's and 1960's in the info posted below. I will be adding on seasons as I compile them.
I realize the thread says "5A" and all the districts listed below are 4A, but 4A was equivalent to 5A prior to 1980 in that it was the largest existing classification out of the five 11-man classifications.
Non-district games are listed in GREEN
District games are listed in BLUE
Playoff games are listed in RED
The dates listed for each week are the dates for the Thursday, Friday and Saturday of each week. The vast majority of regular season games were played on Fridays and the vast majority of Playoff games were played on Saturdays.
