Has your team ever used this play or been abused by this play? There seems to be a wide range of opinion on the ethicality of this play.

Maybe you could suprise a team once, but I find it annoying when a team just does it out of habit... when it obviously is not going to work.

It's only ok if EE uses it. ;D Especially against Callalen in the last seconds of the game. While they are trying to set-up and the official has not blown the whistle to put the ball in play and one of our players kneels down and pretends he is having problems with his shoe. Callalen for who they are (true sportsmans) understand the guy is having equipment problems so he gives him some slack. Play goes into action referees except for the one of them are confused. EE scores crowd goes wild and EE wins the game . Callalen bitterly protests the play . PLay stands because EE coaching staff had informed the ref. about the play and the trickery. Callalen is caught with their pants down.

swinging gate is a legal play. i've been on both sides of the play and if you're not ready, that's your fault....

It is a legal play and EE was caught with thier pants down and we lost. But it would be freaking hilarious if EE used it and the outcome would be as stated above.

I don't like this type of play. I remember the Marlin game against the Tarpons. One of Marlin players lines up right by the lline of scrimmage as if he is really with the sideline players. The players and coaches are right there with him but just out of bounds. It seems he is just out of the field and with the rest of the players. Then on the count he takes off all by himself and catches the ball for a TD. This type of game is to me legal cheating. Just like the credit cards do they legally still money from you.
With a big no I don't like trick plays of this nature. The trick plays that has all people ready for the other players like the flea flicker etc. are ok. Deception should be done on everyone lining up to know who is on the field playing. Not acting dumb like a fox on tieing shoes or hiding from the field by the sidelines as if not in the field. Better rules should be set for this type of play.

Better rules should be set for this type of play. this kind of play is illegal if the player didn't report to at least the numbers on the field. if he came out all the way to the numbers the defense should've seen him. if he didn't come in to the numbers then the ref should've called a penalty for illegal procedure......the swinging gate is a great play that creats better matchups (OL blocking DB's and not DL) for the offense....a good trick play is nice every now and then but only if it's truly necessary. you EE peeps should take the fact that cal had to use a trick play as a sign that your d was getting to them.

Yea, I agree, but it left a bad feeling inside- I would have preferred EE lost by 100, then it would not have felt bad knowing we had lost to a better team.
