For the first time in my life, I decided to get an indoor dog. A friend gave me a full breed Cocker Spaniel. It's only a few weeks old and now I have to try to potty train the booger. How long does it take to get them fully trained? I got him a week before I left on vacation and the week of training went down the drain when my father took care of him. Now that I'm back we're trying to take him out every two hours, but he's still managing to leave his mark here and there. Any good advise out there short of shooting him?

shooting him does sound like a good idea. we thought we had my mom's poodle trained, until he managed to get out of his little pen in the back of the house and ruin all the carpet........i'd say don't get an inside dog.

weill either they won't like it, or take it as a sign of aggression and leave even more marks around the house.

Nah dude there are some pads you put around the house where he usually does his business.Once he gets used to the pads you start moving it towards the door, eventually taking it outside the house. That should do the trick.

i would suggest to buy those pads. When i got a shih-tzu for my wife 2 yrs ago i bought those pads and it IMMEDIATELY started working. Soon after that, my dog started scratching the door signaling it was his time to go. I have never had problems with this dog. I think shih-tzu are naturally potty trained.

So far so good. The little hair ball seems to go when ever i lead him outside, but i have to do it every couple of hours. If I let it go more than than he WILL leave us a gift. I'm just wondering how long is it going to take before he lets us know it's time to go?
