Do the fish come out after it rains or before it rains or during rain??? I've had success in all three. It's not very fun getting all wet and cold while fishing, but the fish will still bite. Rain is actually very beneficial for our bay system. The salinity level of the LM is generally very high. A good rain lowers the level and usually makes the fish more active. Hope this info helps. I've always wanted to fish in the rain but not too cold. Thanks! I went out to south bay last time and it's was pretty fun, especially cuz I was the only one time to catch a flounder.

Fishing the rain could be fun.... as long as it's not a storm. That IS VERY freightening. I'm sure some of you have your stories about being caught in a storm while on a boat.

Fishing the rain could be fun.... as long as it's not a storm. That IS VERY frightening. I'm sure some of you have your stories about being caught in a storm while on a boat. Why yes i do! Last year I was out there sometime around July. Storms were in the forecast, but not until late in the afternoon. As always, the meteorologist was wrong again. Not twenty minutes into our first wade a small storm came, but it had no lightning. Thirty minutes later it was over and we continued. About another half hour after that, I just happened to glance West and saw a thick black rolling cloud bank headed our direction. It was too late to head toward one of the cabins along the inter-coastal since I was way on the east side. As the storm approached quickly, I made the decision to head straight to land on the east side (spi). As soon as I anchored the boat on land, I removed one of my ice chests and handed the client a rain coat. I advised him to keep his feet off the wet ground and get ready for a scary ride. Fifteen seconds later, it was on us. Lightning and thunder was all around us as soon as the storm hit. I could see lightning hitting the water what seemed like a few hundred yards away, but I'm sure it was further than that. About 45 minutes later, it was over. The client was a little scared, but no worse for wear. We continued to fish for awhile, but we could see storms would be on us again soon. We headed in soon after. Fishing was not too bad. If I recall, 3 reds and 1 trout were landed in about actual fishing time. Honestly, I reeeeealy would never want to go through that again. Just recently, I was a documentary about lightning hitting water. If it hits even several yards away, the effects can still be devastating. I guess that's why I have not been on the water since i got back from my vacation. I cancelled the couple of trips i had lined up. It would not have been very fun.

I didn't have to contend with lightning, but the monstrous waves (in the BAY!) were just unbelieveable. I was certain the boat was going to capsize. Of course we were in the channel just a short distance from the entrance to Port Mansfield.
