Found this write up on the scrimmages that happend on saturday.
McAllen Memorial looks strong against Los Fresnos McALLEN — McAllen Memorial dominated the controlled portion of the scrimmage as the Mustangs outscored the Falcons, 6-2. Memorial coach Bill Littleton was pleased with the way his team played. However, the Falcons, with quarterback Danny Silva, operating behind a revamped offensive line, scored 14 points in the game portion of the scrimmage. “Our offensive line played better than I expected,” said Los Fresnos head coach Scott Ford. Los Fresnos lost outstanding tackles Mario Benavides and Eloy Atkinson, who received Division I scholarships. EDINBURG HIGH 3, Mc-ALLEN ROWE 1: At McAllen, it’s only one win in a scrimmage, but it still brings Edinburg High a little bit closer to where Joey Caceres thinks the school belongs. Edinburg High’s offense scored three times to beat McAllen Rowe 3-1. On one drive, quarterback Manny Menchaca had a 70-yard scramble to get Edinburg High in scoring position for an eventual score. The defense, except for one score late in the scrimmage, played as well as Caceres wants. As did the Bobcats as a team. “We‘re taking baby steps, but every step were taking is forward. We’re going forward,” Caceres said. “Right now the kids are full of confidence. It’s one of those things where we‘re playing with a lot of emotion and confidence.” EDINBURG NORTH 3, BROWNSVILLE RIVERA 0: At Edinburg, after a strong start for his offense, Edinburg North coach Roy Garza’s team struggled in beating Rivera. North scored three times in the controlled portion, but was kept out of the endzone in the open part of the scrimmage. Still, Garza said the day was valuable because he got some players more experience at the varsity level. “They handled it pretty well,” Garza said. “We started the scrimmage real strong but we couldn‘t do much during the liveaction scrimmage. “There were some positive things with our young kids. They’re developing well and progressing. They’re just going to have to get ready for the real games starting next week.”

Menchaca looks to be making some noise over there in edinburg. And looks like memorial had a good showing against lf. Didn't someone mention that memorial could be a darkhorse in 30-5A, that they had some talent.

Is Manny the QB or is he the Running Back? I heard he plays safety but they put him in sometimes at qb, mainly to run the ball and he has been turning some heads over there. Think they are going to rotate qbs, but you know when menchaca is in there that hes more of the running qb. Or so i hear.

When i read the article yesterday I was a bit shocked to hear that the Bobcats were 0-10 last year. The last couple of years I have been spending my Fridays playing softball so I havent followed HS football like I use to but now with this board,I'll be more in the know.
I come from the days when the Bobcats were consistently one of the top programs around. So Edinburg peeps, what's happened? Is the talent getting diluted with the 3 high schools?

isnt Edinburg gettin ready to build another HS? Yes, they are. The old HS (located on Canton) is currently a middle school. The will convert that one back to the a HS. What they need to do is separate the HS. The are too close. This one is maybe a mile or 2 from EHS. If this happens, three schools will be located on the East side of Edinburg. Econ, EHS and the new one. I'd figure since Closner and 107 divides Edinburg, they should have one on each side. If this is the case, Econ will fall on one side, North on the other but EHS and the new HS are too close together. They need to build one one on the West side.

Escobar was the quarterback who replaced Joey Perez. He is a good athlete. An Escobar and Menchaca backfield would keep opponents guessing all night long!!!
