although its too early to tell, I hope you all don't suffer the same fate as the porter nation... Doubt it. At least HS has a winning tradition to back them up. If HS does fall, and that is a big "if" with coach Cherry at the helm, I think it will be more like a small stumble instead of a full flat on your face fall. They will be alright and probably will still make the playoffs, at least I hope they do. ;D +1 I think we will be ok. I do have my doubts but thats how every season starts. Nobody knows until they start playing. Its a waiting game for now. We should know the next 2-5 weeks. I hope that coach Cherry will have these guys ready. I just hope that he focused on the O-line, because thats is where we need the help bad. We have great running backs to boot. I think our defense should do fine. I'm just worried about the O-line and the new QB:( Hawk Pride.

Speaking of a pregame ritual.
I think McAllen should do a dog pile before the game. Just run out to the center of the field and just pile on top of each other. That would be kinda cool.

I would say any game.
Heck, any team that has a dog as a mascot should do it. I think it would look great.

just going by YOUR analysis of H. So. Going by the Donna thread they're talking 10-0, 9-1, basically as good or better than San Bene! But i See H. So. improving on Defense and scoring on Offense. H. So. cannot go in the regular season without scoring in 2 scrimmages, if the player's morale is down now! imagine... well lets not. Good Luck!

yea i predict about 5 or 4 for Donna...1 for Harlingen South in the next scrimmage.
McHi should definately be a dogpile...that way its to the advantage of the other team when the guy at the bottom just happens to be one of the stars lol

thank goodness thats over....You all had a good team last year, and i hope your alls success continues into this year, but in all honestly, the "hawka" was the stupidest thing i have ever seen... agreed. nobody other than Trinity should be doin that Trinity's Haka looks pretty cool with those Tongan/Samoan players they have. I think their version is a tad different now than the South version. PSJA North used to have a cool pregame ritual back in '97 when the team would run out from under the goalposts and just go crazy and hit each other. Kinda looked like a cool battle royal. Anyways, as for the OP's question about other teams in the past suffering the dreaded turnaround season, the Mission team of '92 suffered that tremendously, mainly because of Detmer's graduation. After making the semis in '90 and tearing through the '91 season undefeated, finishing 4-6 in '92 was a shellshock for the team and fans. BTW, welcome aboard Hawkalum. Saw you on the "other" RGV board and u had some pretty good insights on football. JW, what was up with some of your teammates taunting the SV players before last year's playoff game?

Thanks! Its always been a dream of mine to be a sports broadcaster and ive made it quite a hobby to do my homework about sports (especially football and soccer) and know as much as i possibly can from the high school levels all the way to the pros!
As for that taunting....yeah...not one of our proudest moments, but you gotta realize that adrenaline a crazy thing and once it takes over before a game, you've most likely lost total control of your mind/actions. After the Nikki Rowe playoff game, the Smithson Valley coaches talked down to us through the coaches meetings with Coach Cherry (rumors were they said that we valley teams were always worthless and not disciplined)The week leading up to the game was filled with lots of trash talk by Smithson Valley players towards us (specifically on MySpace) and how they only expected to steamroll over us (which they did lol). Add all that fire to adrenaline before the game and a few of us players just lost it. Of course we did realize our mistake afterwards and we apologized.

So, I read in the other forum that South and Donna tied 21-21 in the live scrimmage part. Donna came back at the end and tied it. I hope they learned a couple of things yesterday.
Good luck Hawks.

Was it still going on from both sides?(taunting)

And as for the the hawka...i agree, it was pretty lame and the way we did it gave it no justice. Its a great adrenaline booster for the start of the game but we had no Pacific Islanders on our team so we could do it. Im sure a lot of us would be pretty bothered if the Samoans did the wapango coming out of the tunnel or something. i think the reason Trinity did it was b/c they actually had pacific islanders..
