You should fear fireams. You should also fear chainsaws, screwdrivers, kitchen knives, and teenagers in cars. Are advocating against all of those? i would also fear my child attending a school where teachers are carrying handguns and i dont know the history of these teachers. i understand what you are saying corb, but just because you have enough common sense to use a firearm the right way, doesnt mean these teachers will. i can already see it on the news. teacher goes crazy and holds up a class of 4th graders at gunpoint.

Consider this. Say you got a pyscho kid or kids and if they knew the teacher was packing heat, there could be a situation where they take the gun from the teacher. I know there are a lot of "ifs" in that scenario but instead of preventing a tragedy, it could lead to one. Easy solution...Smartcarry... www.smartcarry.com/scinvi.htm

extra protection never hurt anyone. . . diff measures would have to be in place for jr and high school kids. . but i dont mind a teacher having a gun in an elementary setting!!

You might if the bad dudes showed up. More guns make society safer. True, there are some errant episodes that happen every now and then but, they are much rarer than with concealed carry permit holders. Hey profe, do you shoot much? I only blow off 500-600 rounds a year and don't have my concealed carry. Something, I need to work on. Don't get me wrong, I am not one of those people who are against people having the right to carry guns and so forth, but guns in the classroom does not make sense....there is too much of a chance of an accident happening. Trust me, in my twenty years of being in the classroom I have learned one thing- when in comes to students, if there is a chance of an accident happening it is. Although, the thought of having a gun in the classroom would be interesting- especially when it came to occasions such as parent/teacher conferences and Open House.

I would be for it but for the simple fact that teachers are always in close proximity to students. Right next to each other even. Plus if a teacher carried a concealed weapon to school don't you think that the students would eventually find out. Thus that "being in close proximity" would be something to look at especially if you had some wanna be gangbangers in the classroom and knew of the weapon and tried to seize it.

that's why the teacher needs to keep that info from them. all this depends on the teachers being able to keep them "concealed". if people know you have a gun, you're gonna be the first person they try to take out

An extra gun in a class room in Virginia might have mean a lot less bloodshed.

Maybe there should be a guncase in an office where school officials can arm themselves quickly if someone is going on a rampage. Then they might be able to stop the nut before they kill too many people.

Just a side note on this. All of you with kids need to do some home education on guns. The NRA's Eddie the Eagle program is pretty good. Rules are simple and you can probably find the video on youtube. Simple rules. Stop, don't touch, walk away, and tell an adult. It's about what a kid should do when or if they find a gun that's unattended. www.nrahq.org/safety/eddie/The video is $10. You get some stickers with it. It's good stuff. The local Friends of the NRA groups do a presentation at the schools when invited.
