What a crappy situation to transfer into... To "share" the no. 2 spot with 3 other "transfers." I wonder if he was really interested in trying to find a school where he could earn a starting position or if he just picked Kingsville to finish off his eligibillity and be close to home.

You know, I thought about that too but, if it's the last chance to chuck the rock, maybe we'd do the same thing. He definitely was done at Illinois.

Javelinas name Garza starting QB Brownsville Porter product transferred from Illinois By George Vondracek (Contact) Originally published 06:35 p.m., August 21, 2008 Updated 06:35 p.m., August 21, 2008
KINGSVILLE — The chase to determine who will be standing under center for Texas A&M-Kingsville in next Thursday’s season opener at North Dakota is finished, and the reigns go to Brownsville’s Billy Garza.
The Illinois transfer got the nod Thursday from second-year A&M-Kingsville coach Bo Atterberry prior to the Javelinas’ final one-hour controlled scrimmage.
“He showed a lot of composure and poise. He took what the defense was giving him. That was kind of the deciding factor,” Atterberry said of Garza, a senior. “You know, it was tough. We’ve got some good ones. There’s not enough balls to go around, so we’ll start with that and see how it goes.”
Garza gets the controls ahead of Sinton’s Daniel Ramirez, the sophomore who closed the 2007 season as the starter, Kilgore Junior College transfer Logan Morris, eight-game starter David Garza and transfer Nate Poppell.
A former All-State pick out of Brownsville Porter High School, Billy Garza spent 2005-07 on Illinois’ roster but never got into a game. In his senior year at Porter, he threw for 3,185 yards and 38 TDs. He transferred to A&M-Kingsville to finish his degree.
Ramirez, who entered the fall in the No. 1 slot, led the Javelinas to a 47-21 victory over Angelo State in the 2007 finale. In three games last season, Ramirez completed 64.4 percent of his passes, throwing for 660 yards and six scores with two picks.
A former Carroll standout, the junior Morris is third on the depth chart, but the Javs will utilize him in running situations.

As a Valley football fan I find it great that he is coming back home to finish his career, but as an educator I think it is a terrible idea.
