Similar thing happen to the 1989 PI team that missed the playoffs... lost plenty of talent to some new gang that used to call themselves the orphans... no BS! That was my class!  It wasn't a gang...it was a club ;D |

RH has always had the talent, but for all sorts of reasons....we were more of "coulda,woulda,shoulda" teams. The '92-93 teams were right there on the cusp from '95-'98 we had some of THE BEST talent RH has had. We just couldn't get it done. I want to tell a story about the '97 team. The seniors then as 8th graders and Freshmen went 3-0(they played twice as freshmen.) against PI during those two years. ALOT of that team was depleted due to drugs,gangs,grades,or just bad attitudes. Coach Powell was a stickler and held all of us accountable. When they were seniors only a handful played. For you PI folks, Noe Montalvo or anyone that played as freshmen from the '97 squad will tell you that RH "could've" beaten PI had that group stayed together all four years. Of course, that's irrelevant, but it was supposed to be the beginning of a new tradition. We had to wait until '99 to get to the playoffs. And if Len Bias hadn't OD'd after celebrating his being the 1st pick of the draft...the Boston Celtics "woulda won a few more championships in the 80s.  |
