the best things about watching the Olympic Gold Medal Game...
No Commercials for 'The Closer' 'Saving Grace' or anything... NBC apparently, knows drama as well... We get to hear the old NBA on NBC music

well a win is a win, but i wish it had been more convincing on the scoreboard. USA seemed to have control throughout, even with all the fouls, but the score doesn't really show it.

Well, going back to the fundamentals.
Reasons why Spain kept it close:
1) No defense on Kidd's end. I'm not sure why he was on this US team in the first place, but he was allowing some of the gaurds (Navarro, especially) to run around him, thus giving the Spanish gaurds confidence to run on Williams and Paul.
2) Rebounding was Spain's forte, and it showed in this game. Dwight Howard needed to step it up with the size differential between Spain and US. Howard still hasn't developed that yet. Perhaps in 2012, Greg Oden can beef up the defensive end (as a rebound specialist).
3) Chippy fouls; a part on the US, the other with these inconsistant refs.

dwight howard wasn't playing to his potential because of the way the fouls were being called. in the nba he is very aggressive, he couldn't be that kind of player tonight. kidd couldn't help but have navarro go by him......he's just not quick anymore... the officiating was terrible!!

Take into consideration that Spain is a talented team (7 NBA players), it's a Gold medal game, bad officiating, and the large target on backs of the US players...they will get the best of everybody, especially Spain. It's never easy beating a team twice.
Though today's score might hinder their chances on being considered the best team the US has ever assembled (of course, remaining to be the '92 Dream Team), nobody will ever take away what they did and what it meant for fans all across the US.
I liked what the commentator said "There's no question, the US has always had the best talent. But in these Olympics, they have the best talent and the best team."

Early foul trouble from James and Kobe hurt the US but Wade and Paul stepped up huge. Damn Kobe is clutch!

Nothing can compare to that '92 Dream Team. Jordan, Magic, Bird, ect. all in one team. Any other "dream" team that follows will never live up to the originals.

but the competition is far better than i was back then. Not sayint Dream team would lose because I think Dream Team would win but it would be alot closer than most think. The game is alot faster now

Good point, but that team was insanely talented. You had Barkley, Ewing, David Robinson, Scottie Pippen, Karl Malone, ect...and Michael Jordan in their PRIME years. Can't top that. As much as I like Kobe, he is no match for Jordan in his prime.

Wow, I have a headache just thinking about who would win. I mean its hard to go against Jordan back then but I also think Jordan was better during the 2nd 3 peat. I would have to give the edge to the Redeem team in athleticism. It would be a very close game I think but I think the Dream team would pull it out.

In terms of athleticism, I thought Jordan was better before his first retirement, when he could dunk from the free throw line. He had some of the most incredible dunks and athletic ability I've ever seen. As an overall player, yeah I thought he was better in the 2nd 3 peat. Actually got to see them(Bulls) play in SA during their last year together. He was still basically putting up the same numbers as before and I remember the announcers used to say he was better because he was a smarter player as he got older. Also remember Jerry Stackhouse taunted him through the press in his rookie year at Philly that he could take Jordan easily before their game and then Jordan putting up 45 points and toying with Stackhouse throughout the game.
I always wondered how prime Jordan would have fared against Lebron too.

jordan vs lebron would be a good matchup to watch, but there is no way kobe could stick with jordan on the defensive end....and jordan probably wouldn't let him even touch the ball all that much......

Sad thing is that Kobe and Jordan did play against each other but in Jordan's later years, way past his prime. Although they did play in Kobe's rookie year but Kobe hardly played or matched up against him.

I had nosebleed seats but it was just to say that I saw Jordan play in person. Jordan had a ho-hum night, 30 pts.
