Early 90's was a great time for Mission. Those were the days. Can't wait for them to move back up to 5A.

Mission's history looks impressive but it's their present that needs work. They must be able to defeat La Maquina in order to go back to 5A prepared.

UPDATE: All but 10 scores are posted now going back to 1970, which was Mission's very first season moving up from 3A to 4A (the largest classification at the time)

I have to agree that our history here in recent years hasn't been all that impressive. I hope for a turn in the positive direction starting this season. Mission should start to do better or else we can almost say that there will be some big changes not only in Mission, but at Veterans as well.

I would have to agree with you eagleprophet. I hope you guys have a good season this year. It doesn't help that there is Mission Sharyland & Mission Veterens around. Taking the talent away from one school.

Taking the talent away from one school. The split that took place several years back only fed kids into Veterans Memorial. Sharyland is its own school district within the city of Mission and western edges of McAllen. But yes, we need to get back to where we were so used to being. It really stinks that you know what has been and is no longer. But to me there seems to be sufficient talent to at least make our offense more interesting and make games more exciting. Half empty stands in a once proud program is something that you just cannot get used to. Tickets were the hottest thing in town. There were no available season tickets that's why the stadium was expanded right before Koy Detmers senior season and still no season tix available. Coach Lee and his staff must be working their minds/butts off to represent. We need to at least get into the playoffs with a 500+ record in order to feel it was a successful season and a turn in the right direction again. |

The one game that I really hated was the playoff game against Weslaco in 1988. We came in undefeated with an overwhelming favorites tag into that game and then we lay a freakin' goose egg. In 8 games we had only allowed 49 points and then give up 21 to a Weslaco team that seemed average at best. "That's what happens when you make your reservations for San Antonio before you even play your Bi District Playoff game." It was embarrassing to say the least.
