I'm going to tackle this one by one according to my Valley Ranking:. 1. Edcouch - Elsa - here's a team that had the potential to go at least 4 deep. They've got a great QB, great TE, above average O-Line with size, good size and speed at WR, nice secondary, tough MLB with size. The only question marks in my mind are D-Line and RB's. IMO, they take the district title that allows them to play someone else other than Calallen in the first round but will then have to meet a Port Lavaca or Beeville Jones which would be a tough match up in the second round. Again, they have the potential but those 4a teams up by the coastal area are stacked. Prediction: third round 2. Mc Allen Bulldogs - this team is stacked from top to bottom. Best offensive line in the Valley with all 5 starters back and with great size. Leal at QB is serviceable and the WR's are great. Defensively they look strong but have to deal with the loss of Sam Weisman which was a great leader last year. McHi wins the district and will face a team from Laredo. IMO they face Eagle Pass which they will rout. This sets up a game against a Valley foe which they will win. Next up would be a San Antonio team which by all accounts are all hurting from graduation. McHI has a great opportunity to make it out of this game. Prediction: 4th round loss 3. Harlingen - here's another team with a great offensive line and defensive line. Tyler Clifton (OL), Mingo Rincon (DL), JB Gutierrez (DL) are beasts in the trenches. Very mature QB in John Murphy and serviceable Wr's. Add Coach Gantt bringing in the Los Fresnos offense and now you got something. You know that Coach Gomez will put together another outstanding defense, so you don't have to worry about that. They win 31-5A district championship, first round a game against a 32-5a team, second round a 30-5A game, and then San Antonio. Prediction: third round loss 4. Los Fresnos - another loaded year for Coach Scott Ford. Even with the loss of those two mammoth linemen, Benavides (Louisville) and Atkinson (UTEP), the Falcons still return Danny Mendez at running back. Shoot, you could put a bunch of 5'5" linemen and you still couldn't stop Mendez. He's that quick! Even with all the offense LF has, they will hang their hat on the defense this year. Matt Mendez gets no pub but might be the best on the defensive side of the ball. Close to Mendez is another beast in Edgar Martinez (MLB). Can Weslaco and SB put up a fight to take the district championship from LF? Los Fresnos has the defense to win games and enough offensive firepower to win a couple of playoff games. Prediction: 3rd loss. 5. Rio Hondo - Jospeh Vela at QB - nuff said. You put Vela with those RB's they have and you have enough firepower to compete. Alonzo Garza at DE (2007 All-STate) will have a tremendous year. Rio Hondo has had some major players lost to graduation and add the loss of Gus Cavazos (HC) and you wonder what team will be playing. The boys win district but a second round loss finishes off the season. Prediction: 2nd round loss.

"Mark my words" Mercedes will win district and get past any Coastal Bend team in the first round of the playoffs. Somebody put this in their archives cuz it will need to be brought back when it comes to its fruition.

I've heard this from many tiger fans for the past 5 years or so but E-E is the 5 time defending district champs. Something tells me that they will continue their consecutive district championship accomplishment for years to come.
