Falcons staying sharp

The reigning District 32-5A champions are looking sharp.

Los Fresnos' practice field is buzzing with football energy and expectations are high in Falcon city.

One of the question marks going into the season was the health of quarterback Danny Silva.

Silva broke his foot in the first quarter against Weslaco on Nov. 9 where the Falcons managed to edge the Panthers 28-21 for its second straight district title.

Los Fresnos coach Scott Ford said his senior quarterback is back to full strength and it was evident in practice.

Silva took reps and rolled in and out of the pocket with seemingly no affects from last season's injury.

Even after fumbling a pair of snaps Silva managed to pick up the ball and hit his target right between the numbers on both plays.

"I'm excited for the season," he said. "We want to go past three deep in the playoffs this year."

On the defensive side of the ball Los Fresnos has been working on drills that will hopefully create more turnovers.

The Falcons want to create better field position for its offense and keep the defense rested.

"We are putting the defense in scenarios where they have to make plays," linebacker's coach Rene Morales said. "We are work-ing on getting their hands on the ball and stripping it.

"We want more turnovers than last year," he added. "We were good last season but we want to put our offense on the field more to put up points."

Noticeably absent from practice was running back Danny Mendez who was unable to participate for undisclosed reasons.

Mendez rushed for over 2,000 yards last season including 19 touchdowns for the Falcons' potent offense.

Chill bro! No one's being sarcastic here! I know you all have the advantage, being a 5a and all. At least we get to see where we stand when we play you guys going into district comp.
Anyways, does anybody know the all time series between the falcons & tigers?

nah just messing... i actually dont know if ill be at the Mercy or LF side.... i expect it to be a good game... I think mercy has the advantage on the overall record not sure but i bet a nickel on it...

as for the game... it will be a hard faought game... Mercy will just be done with the Classic so might have something to prove in the LF game... if they win the classic, they will come out to prove that this team is for real and can not only beat a good out of valley team but one of the best teams in the valley aswell... LF on the other hand will have had a tough opener at PSJA and if they win could be (if there heads arnt screwed right) looking at mercy as a down week before Cal... i doubt this senario will happen, and LF will be running full strength every week, and at the same time dont think mercy can win only if LF is sleepping at the wheel.... BUT... i have seen mercy play Wes the last two years with Alex and all and honestly Wes had to taken down a few notches for it not to be blowouts... dont get me wrong here guys i dont like Wes just as much as you do and do believe wes was afraid to meet you with out mishak, but even with Mishak LF managed to win all three years... Mercy made it competitive to some extent for a while... i dont believe Alex has the abuilties that mishak possessed and having seen Alex play with the mercy team in person he and the mercy team did not have the wow factor that Wes had with mishak...

i was about to mention that picture TF/// LF had a good looking JV team and has had to keep back potential prospects like this kid and sTEPHAN.... PLUS MANY MORE... whats good is that thses youngsters in the ranks all want to compete and all want to play on friday nights... and know that they have a coach that will play you if you show the potential... they now that the BEST players will play nomatter what age they are so it gives them the hope to become three year starters knowing that everyone is fighting for those 22 spots...

but i thought mishak was not that much of a factor against the falcons...i somehow got to see that game and the falcons are amazing team but the panthers almost came out with a win...to my knowledge de leon was driving the team then got hurt who knows what might of happen if he had not got hurt..not to say the mighty falcons would not have put it away anyhow. but makes you go hummmmm.
