you need a DBA(at county courthouse) and pick if you are sole proprietor or company, you need a Tax number for sales tax(texas comptrolers office in mcallen on mcoll), you need a EID number for employment purposes (from irs website). I think thats it.
just make sure you talk to a cpa so you can do the money part right if business does good, you dont want any problems later if you want your business to grow.
sylvian lerning center is a good franshise that work well up north. They work good in areas with high cost of living.

my partner has a degree in math and biology. i'm going to be a partner but he's gonna be the face of it. even in the name i get second billing. i'm gonna graduate with my math degree in the spring. i've also worked with wisd in my own class actually teaching. i had a mentor teacher who was in the class with me but i was in charge of grades, and lesson plans. been doing that for 3 years....it's mostly TAKS material but i do have to teach some classes in algebra, algebra 2, and geometry.....i'm averaging 95% passing rate over the past 3 years. i get the job done....

You sure are talking a big game... if you can back it up, why not just become a consultant. There are schools that pay big bucks for these consultants to come in and wave their fingers around and not do very much. It would probably be eaiser, and more lucrative then opening up a learning center.

wouldn't i have to have a degree for that? and besides, most districts employ "stategists" that do exactly what you're talking about......and buzzy, i'm just going by results. i don't teach everyone the same but everyone gets taught. i'm not like a normal teacher that's set in their ways. in other words, there's not a single right way to teach, you have to understand your students. ask them as many questions as you can so that you can help them learn......

you're right about the districts paying big bucks for that consulting work......maybe after i graduate i'll look into it.....as far as the learning center goes, i think it could make more money anyway. act/sat training and tests, thea training and tests together could bring about 1000 students or more a semester and maybe a little more in the summer. i could survive on that alone....there's so much you can do with this......
