i've worked in 2 different hospitals, one in houston and one in edinburg. in houston, we saw 100's of "regulars" that came in to the ER for any reason at all. some of them had mental conditions and seeing them sprawled out on the floor wasn't an usual thing, however, we were instructed, NO MATTER WHAT DEPARTMENT YOU'RE IN OR WHAT YOUR JOB TITLE IS you must help them up and make sure they are ok. the doctor could even lose his license over this. 24 hr wait in an EMERGENCY room is just ridiculous. Apparently you are or were an exception. I took someone to an emergency room down here with a 3-4 inch gash in his head. No bone break. We kept pressure on it so it was ok for a while. An hour or more after we got there, it blew. I mean blood leaking down his head, neck, onto the furniture, and floor. The people around us moved to other chairs. One got up and went to the bathroom and got paper towels as I went to the desk people to ask for help. The folks at the desk? They slid a towel underneath the registration window. That sped us up. 45 minutes later we were moved into the "real emergency room. The entire visit lasted about 6 hours before the staples were planted into this guy's head. The worst part? I personally know people in Matamoros who have had loved ones die and the ambulance showed up the day before the burial. Mexico has socialized medicine. I was just pissed off. It could have been worse, I guess. That's crazy. Isn't the ER supposes to treat those who have more of any emergency fo examplt this guy should have been stapled and cleaned up the moment they went in there.

Quick question: If you go to the ER and let's say you have been shot a few times and are about to die they fix you up and all but you have no insurance. What do they do then???

The ERs always make you wait and wait... Almost seems like they hope you'll leave. The other part, though is a lot of times what the patients think is an immediate emergency really isn't always... Still, the way that lady, and many of the stories we've heard, were just left there—that's just beyond cold blooded... Inexcusable...

Don't know if this is true, but I would imagine the best way to get immediate help from a hospital is to arrive in on an ambulance.

Yes it might take a while for the ambulance to get their but it'll be waaaay faster than to wait in the ER.

the hospital has to stabalize you. if they patch you up but you're still bleeding internally then they haven't stabalized you. they won't send you away until they're sure you'll live. they'll stop the bleeding then drug you up enough that you won't feel pain for a few hours then send you on your way. you'll wake up with an insane amount of pain..........but you won't die. if you die then you can sue the hospital.........

Come on... it was a simple mistake. Why can't you admit it? In this case, you were wrong, but you could have been right, right?
