I think they should turn the job over to the assistant coach. He has been loyal to the program. He his a good coach.

Here is what i hear. I hear there is a push to get Lalo Rios in. I am friends with him and Zeke Cuellar. Personally, I think Zeke should get the job. If you talked to coaches around the valley they would tell you that he is a master of x's and o's. I can't tell you how many times i would go to him with questions and he would give me two other defenses to run. They guy is good. However, it's Edinburg and they got rid of a baseball coach that went 28-4. You never know. Oh, i do think Lalo would be a good coach too, but Zeke deserves the job.

Why are they waiting so long to make the decision? I think it should go to the assistant coach. Winning is a habit and so is losing, now look at the two programs over the last 5 years.

I think you have to realize that no matter what town you live in, politics is in works. People need to get something. and i think people are just positioning themselves for free gifts and other favors. They did interviews last week i believe.

woohoo! Finally a site we can understand.
A couple of people have applied and I believe the deadline was Monday. They have some good candidates. Here's hoping they have the teams best interest in mind when they select a new coach.

Strongforce, I think it is a little too late to bring in a high profile coach. The next thing is to try to bring in an assistant coach from a high profile program, if they are not going to consider the EHS assistant coach. The timing of the entire thing is very bad. I wish the Bobcats luck on this one.

I couldn't agree more...my intention on my post wanted to say more...but I stopped short. Here is my take on it. Filo got to where he did because of the strong support system he had from his assistants and not to mention the talent of players he's had. Cuellar would create plays Filo would approve execution. I personally hope that Cuellar inherits this team. The returning players know and understand he's style of coaching. It would be ashame if they would bring someone from the outside...it will take a good while before they can mesh with a new coach. Cuellar is like family to these kids...if they overlook Cuellar, they could possilby built a wall between the coach and the players and make it difficult for the coach to get to the player in spirit and mind. Didn't Rios play under Filo sometime ago?

Let me be clear about this. I am friends with Lalo Rios, I am also friends with Zeke Cuellar. I say this from a totally non biased look. When you put the time and effort into a program like Zeke has you should hope that hard work and superior performance would weigh higher than a high profile coach, or a great PR move like hiring Lalo. They are both good guys, but that means nothing here. Coach Cuellar has been on this staff for i think 7 years. In seven year the Bobcats have won 4 district titles. I don't equate that solely to Zeke being on the staff but i think it shows a pattern. I can also say this, I think Zeke is one of the best coaches in the Rio Grande Valley and a gem. Don't ask me, ask other coaches in the valley. Ask Swift, Coach Molina at Harlingen South. This is nothing against Lalo Rios, i think he's a great coach in a difficult place to win, but Zeke Cuellar is hands down the best coach for this situation. I don't mean to rant, but i have.

I concur. Zeke is a very good basketball coach. He understands the little things, the intricacies of adjusting offenses and defenses. The other coaches repect him as do (most importantly) the players. He's a no-nonsense guy who tells you like it is. No disrespect to any of the other coaches that applied, but I really feel that Zeke deserves this.

RGVSN, Ok, time is running out, you know who they are leaning towards. Why do you want others to ask Coach Molina, wasn't he in the same position before Harlingen South hired him. Was he even given a chance at Weslaco? I think the wrong people call the shots from the top floor and they have know idea what is happening on the first floor.

To be honest with you. If its a political hire, it's Lalo Rios. If they do what they should, Zeke Cuellar should get the job. Ive been gone for a week and i could have missed some news while i was gone but that is what i hear. I also here that they have even been looking for a BCIS job at EHS but there are none. So alot of movement will have to happen before he gets hired.

I would like to congratulate Coach Cuellar. I think the school board showed alot of backbone and made a great hire and I think the Bobcats will still be the team to beat in 31-5A. I also wanted to say that the other coaches in the mix showed alot of class. Tonight i heard that many of them pulled their names out of the EHS hat last week in respect for a man that has put in the time and effort to help build this program to where it is.
